read/hear all these high prices, for lambs and ewes, it wasn't very long ago that sheep trade was going to be totally f##ked when we leave the EU, but my query is, who can afford to eat lamb/mutton, there is not that much high value meat on a carcass, take off back legs, best chops, not much left. If household debt, is as high, as statistics say, a joint of lamb, is a very expensive meal ! But good luck to you sheep boys, a very useful addition to your pockets !
The prime beef trade, is down, but cull cows are holding, housewife wanting cheaper mince, rather than joints, doesn't quite seem to add up.

Has price went up in supermarkets/shops?

Normally doesn't which shows how much margin they have.

Normally discuss wholesale lamb prices with chap at local Indian, but haven't been in for a while.

That’s because a large proportion is still heading to Europe and there is a world wide shortage of lamb and mutton at the moment. Who knows what trade will be like next year but I think sheep meat will fair better than beef
Back to what I said at the start. Demand drives trade irrespective of trade treaties/deals. If it’s wanted somewhere in the world and they can pay for it, it will get there.

A huge crowd of purchasers with several men walking away without getting on the score sheets!! Hoggs the dearest this season and exceptional throughout -strongest stores to £116, with several trading £100 to £111. Still a good show of farming hoggs for mid February, however these animated and look very well sold with most £90 to £99.50 and plainer types £85 to £92. Plenty of the larger bunches £92 to £96, with numbers no problem and more needed to meet demand.

Medium keeping sorts all £77 to £85, plenty of the well bred types £80 to £85, with some harder bred types trading in the £70’s and look some of the dearest sold. Many longer term sorts, which included several bunches of Welsh x hoggs and smaller clear up types. The stronger smaller Welsh hoggs from £58 to £67, with several of these £62 to £65. Plainer types £50 to £58 with very little under £50. Ram hoggs to £102 for stronger Welsh Mules, Texels to £101 for a bunch and Welsh to £100. All strength with condition £90 to £98, farming types £80 to £88, small Welsh types trading £55 to £70 and some of the dearest sold. Pint and a small glass of wine 12/13 quid thats local. Daughter was home from London this weekend and took her for a local steak eighteen pound the lamb same price on menu. She was shocked how cheap it was as would be double in London even more in some places. Had a couple of lambs for a wedding evening bash in the Summer 20kg lamb hung up produced 85 rolls each for the guests. In local shows in summer that would have been £6 a roll at minimum more in music festivals so are we selling our lamb too dear??
