John Deere reducing dealerships

i understand that the number of holdings has reduced and there are fewer tractors sold i was just reminiscing in those days the massey range went up to a 175 ford was a 500 nuffield 1060 if you wanted four wheel drive you had to go to county, these days 150hp four wheel drive is run of the mill, but i will say this, it felt like your custom was appreciated in those days,
if there was a sniff you wanted a new machine the reps would come to see you these days you would be hard pressed to get one in the yard, three weeks ago i enquired about a new teli handler and was told to look on line the model he mentioned was not on line so i phoned back and told him he said it was a new model so i asked for a broacher and i still haven't received one, it make one wonder if they want the business
Doesn’t sound like great service. As is the nature of folk (not aimed at you in this instance!) some will enquire and pursue new quotes and then not buy anything. That said if a dealer knows his area well he will know who the potential “tyre kickers” maybe. Those bygone days were good though, shame we didn’t realise it at the time!

One of the many reasons for moving here was to go back in time.
I have finally given up with JD here (I had 8 jd’s last autumn), my nearest dealer is Deutz. So I called in for a look/quote. He did a basic quote and called to the farm the next day with it, we altered the spec a bit and the price seemed ok, so I asked if they had something much the same as I hadn’t even been close to a deutz. At that time he didn’t have something very close (I want a vario and this being a livestock area, most of what he has is not vario), so he made some calls and got permission from a farmer he sold something almost identical several months ago to have a look/drive around in. So, two days later, he picked me up from the farm, then or route we passed a heifer on the road - he knew whose it was, so we turned around, back the that farm then helped that (unknown to me) farmer gather up his heifer, then off to the deutz farm to test the tractor. A better test of the product I thought, as it had been worked hard on farm for several months by then. He then took me home, where we altered the spec again and he quoted - again- so I have an order in for a deutz.
This chap sold 40 tractors last year, along with all The Kverneland/Amazon etc etc kit, so most customers must take up a lot less time.
Maybe this brand is so good, once you have one, when you need to, you just say « oh I want a replacement please »? (y)

I agree! I am completely neutral on tractors as my career has been machinery. I do have a number of Deutz dealers and the new ones are fair tractor. Great on the PTO. Most modern cabs are a nice place to be, especially when you’ve had experience of no cabs, roll bars, Duncan canvas clad cabs and the first all steel and glass cabs with no sound deadening!! Today’s young drivers shouldn’t moan. If so, find a 40 year old tractor to drive for a day,,,,.. in the winter!!!

Just had a message, our local Volvo dealer has been sacked ... MR King...we buy our cars from them not Volvo so it’s a massive shame. They are part of east Suffolk history. A great family

In order to stabilise this long-term, strategic cooperation, John Deere intends to acquire a stake in Kramer-Werke GmbH. Must be something in it. I think Claas had a small stake also when they made the scorpion.

In the middle of harvest your Baler needs a part, your local dealer doesn’t have it but their other depot (how ever far away does) you wouldn’t think twice about going to collect the part to get you up and running again. It just means all the stock is in one place rather than being spread about the depots!
we really lucky here have agco in hinkley case new holland in daventry , That means no more than twenty minutes for baler or combine parts if dealer does not carry what we need
