Michelin Tyre pressure training day

Learnt a few month ago that Michelin offer customers a free weighing and set up service to help optimise the pressures for minimal soil damage, traction, fuel use and tyre life

So last week we had them here for the day, they weighed every combination of machine and tractor we use, recommended best ballasting with weights and optimum pressures for our applications field and road

Best of all my staff got a hell of a lot out of their time spent with the experts and are now far more aware of the importance of getting this basic but extremely important setting correct

a few pictures taken on the day

Anyone who has Michelin on farm should do this if they haven't already, they maybe a premium brand but I guess that's why this level of service is possible

Had our Michelin man out last time new tractor came on Michelins. Great job well worth it. Last new tractor came on trelleborg and even tyre place says you'll have no luck with their rep. Michelin might cost more but at least they are interested in helping the customer get the best from their tyres.

My first thought is that weigh pad going to weigh correctly when there isn't a similar height lump the other side?... if it lifted high enough all the weight would be on the other side.

I agree and have thought similar. I get those pads probably aren't cheap - but a full set would do a more accurate job.

Must be the same bloke that looked at my tyres when I had an issue last year or they are all trained the same that's the main reason I won't be having anymore trelleborg if I can help it.

How far off optimum set up had you been running Clive? / were the gains significant? The education to your staff is obviously the biggest gain.

waiting for the full report to come though. i have some good guys working here so i don’t think we are far off but there is sure to be areas we can improve

i think it’s really bought home the import of adjusting between road and field to us all as the differences are big - so we are looking at fitting central tyre inflation systems now !

there is a advanced version of michelin’s new central inflation Zen Terra system called “convoy” being launched soon that we are going to fit to one of our 724’s. - as well as the tractor it also adjusts implement tyres based on GPS location / loadcells and speed

Being a usually 2nd owner, it's rare I get a choice of tyres so have to make do with what arrive. I do try to choose appropriate pressures and am happy to trundle to field if necessary. Muck spreading is where I struggle for balance.

I thought with these fancy vf tyres that you could run at speed at field pressures, reducing the compromises needed on the older designs? I imagined that cti would be more beneficial for basic tyre tech.

VF does reduce the compromise but there is a still a compromise between road and field

new tyre tech coming soon apparently that will only work with central inflation systems but offer a different league of low field pressures

As much as I like the idea and can see the benefits of cti there’s a couple of things that put me off -
1 - I think the pipes look extremely vulnerable
2 - it looks bloody awful!

Only system that would tempt me is the integrated one on the 1000 series Fendt

The vario grip system is great. The road and field pressures are saved for each implement within the variotronic Ti. Very simple system to use, one of the best features on the tractor

i’m much more concerned about how well it works than how it looks
