Livestock Markets may be closed from next week

Talk today at Sedgemoor livestock market was that ALL prime and store livestock markets will be stopped from operating from some point next week!

Apparently Wales are intending to shut their livestock markets from Monday.

Apparently it was touch and go yesterday if todays market would be allowed to go ahead!

Plans are being talked about to keep the livestock markets going which may include vendors turning up, staying in their trucks whilst the stock are unloaded, leaving the market and then after all stock has been unloaded the buyers being allowed in, all stock would then be sold subject.

Not sure if the above is workable or not.

Expectations are that when livestock markets close it will be for at least 3 months!

I rang Welshpool to check yesterday and they said there was definitely a market on Monday.

Not too worried about my hoggets, but been pulling together the cull ewes from various mobs today.
As always, I will be dropping them, penning them and leaving anyway.

All from yourself though @gone up the hill this talk does no one any good.

Not from me @ S J h , It was the talk of the market both farmers and auctioneers as soon as I walked in the door, that was the first I had heard of it and really wasn't expecting to be told that markets could be forced to close from next week thou it was quite clear from the queue of farmers trying to off load stock in the market that this information about a possible closure had been circulating since Friday evening.

Exeter yesterday was a normal market both stock and people numbers wise and there was no talk of any sort of market shut downs coming into effect either next week or in the following weeks.

I for one certainly hope that livestock markets are NOT closed as it will be a disaster for not only farmers but so many people who have much needed jobs at the markets like drovers/ cleaners/ stall holders/ office girls/ hauliers and so the list goes on.

If we all focused on what could go wrong in farming we wouldn’t be doing anything

I don't know what auctioneer would start a rumour about shutting their own market. All sounds like gossip to me.
