JCB 535-95 Help!!

Showing error codes steering mode sensor 1 OORL
And Steering mode sensor 2 OORL Rear axle not steering front only in all 3 modes
Any advice please?

There is a sensor on the back axle that looks at the rear steering ram.

It usually has a little led light on it, which should light up when you hold your penknife blade across it.

If it doesn't, youve a bad sensor or no power to it.

Check all fuses ..

I’ve just been back out to some cows and found a sensor on the right hand side of the ram. I need to hold a pen knife over it to wake it up? And there should be a light on it somewhere?

I think I'm right in saying that the sensors detect a small upright dowel on the track rod between the two wheels..

As has been said, there is a small led light on them that should light up when metal is placed at the end of the sensor.. if you disconnect the plug you should be able to detect power on one of the poles with a multimeter...
If no power, check fuses etc..
If there is power, but the sensor will not light up, it's a duff sensor...

If you want to bodge it, cut the wires off the duff sensor and join them, then plug back in.. now it should change mode irrespective of where that set of wheels is pointing..

At least, that all applies to our 525-67 anyway...

When I select the different modes on the switch it doesn’t change on the display. What does that mean?

Yeah that’s the setup for a 525-67, I’m thinking a 535-95 will have a steel disk on one side of the ram that passes over the top of the sensor which is mounted with the led underneath. The opposite way up to the 525-67.

The OP should check the sensor clears the disk by a small amount (5-6mm). The next step is to verify the sensor is working. This can be done with a piece of metal, remove the shroud protecting the sensor and look where the wires enter the sensor. touch the metal to the opposite end of the sensor and watch for a little orange light next to the area where the wires go into the sensor.

Ahhh. Yeah, I have seen that set up too... is it a different dash/ switching system too as ours won't flash when you select a new mode...

As jd6820 says, find the sensors and check for power is the first port of call...

I’ve attached a picture. It shows the front sensor but identical to rear. Remove cover 4 to see the light. Cable will be zip tied to cover so be a little gentle.

Had another look at it this morning and pulled a few fuses. It’s now flashing four wheel steer instead of being stuck in front wheel steer but won’t lock in. Tried putting pocket knife over front and rear offside axle sensors but still won’t lock into place. Rear wheels are out of sink with front wheels now and I can’t get it back into front wheel steer. Rear axle appears to be turning ok front axle is all over the place.

Could be steering ram seals if electrics are ok?

Had this prob on 530-70. Was possible to square up the steering by tricking it to think the back wheels were in line by placing a washer on the sensor then switching between modes until straight. Kept it going a wee while but if the seals are away it gives up pretty quick

try lifting front wheels up off ground and see if they travel as normal with no weight on them

I take it your machine is tier 4,

The code displayed could be any sensor on the 5 volt system corrupting machine.
I’ve seen it before where boom angle sensors can cause this same symptom even though nothing to do with steering modes.
Check the error log in your dash for any other errors which are not being displayed
Check your errors through your live link app / log on

check all the connectors are fully secured onto the hydraulic ECU under the mid chassis under the boom.

Yes tier 4 a while back it stopped lifting and displayed a arrow pointing under the back end as a fault code. Rang dealer and he said to take the block sensor off the back axle and make sure it is in contact with the axle. Took it off faffed about with it and all started working again after re setting load monitor. This fault code has just appeared again
