Covid 19.. Milk price impact?

Not sure. I know the Haulage firm struggling for drivers so if 30% are sick that will make it tricky. The cynical side of me says maybe they don’t want to pay for this many litres to go on a weak spot market so easier to get farmer to dump it than make a loss?

The Army is on standby, already seen some deployed round us. Can you imagine what will happen if there’s a food shortage?

The army will step in to keep haulage and food processing moving. They have no choice.

Perhaps it’s time for farmers to demand more for there products, without us the country will starve

Had farm assurance inspector ring to say he was booking me for next Thursday afternoon, after a think I decided to cancel, he was cool with this decision.

I was utterly disappointed to see that our milk buyer said red tractor were making no allowances and if the inspection time lapsed then we’d no longer be accredited.
I’m glad someone in the chain has some sense with your inspector

My tanker driver (Arla) had a co-driver with him today that he was obviously training up - the co-driver was dressed head to foot in camouflage! Very strange, and I didn’t go near them to query it (social distancing etc)

Now I don’t want to start rumours, and this may be complete bollox, but are we seeing military personnel being trained to take up milk collections if the need arose? Either that or today’s trainee driver must have a serious military or shooting fetish to be dressed head to foot in camo!

I find yours and the other cretins who liked this post absolutely disgusting and sickening. With the country on it's knees you demand more money to stop people from starving. You are the lowest of the low. Absolute scumbags. Shame on you. I suppose you'll all be demanding an increase in your SFP too. Good luck with that.
I'll be happy if all my friends and family come out of this healthy. Profits are the least of my worries.

I demand more so I can employ more. Simple economics. If 50% of the farm workforce go into isolation where will the food come from?! I’m happy to pay my men full pay while there off work and employ a further 50% who need work.

Hundreds if not thousands currently without work, I’m sure they would appreciate the opportunity.

With your great ideas thousands will die of starvation as well as from the virus you complete moron.

And as for your SFP stick it in the bin! Will be glad to see the back of it!

Actually you are a complete idiot. You come on here calling farmers scumbags and after this the supermarkets will have done record sales and made record profits and we are the scumbags?!

Do the rest of us a favour and go and find a new profession.

So, any thoughts?

Could get dicey if all the food service outlets and restaurants get closed.

Sure, cheese, butter etc will be ok..but there's alot of milk going into cafe's and food service.

Are we in for a hammering?

And if we are, then who is going to compensate us! ? It's going to be s big queue..
One thing is sure and simple people can do without alot of things but to survive they need food so there will be demand.

fully agree and I hope as time passes the great british public can embrace home produced foodstuffs and not just see it as us stepping up to the plate in times of crisis, hopefully they'll remember that we are here 365 days of the year.

i think this could be very telling over the next few days. They are putting into place special provision for childcare for “key workers” to keep the country moving. As it stands farmers aren’t on that list. If that doesn’t change then I fully agree with your post. If they Can’t understand that we’re a vital cog in the machine then we will be forced tocreate a peak to match their troughs.

Bit harsh there lad. Don't get me wrong I understand you in a way, but in times like this there has to be some realisation and that many sectors and industries in our country have been undervalued. Before this started our local NHS nurses were planning a strike over pay and unsafe staffing levels. Basically being run into the ground, working unpaid hours to provide the care and attention required, would you begrudge hem recognition for the work they do? Should food production be any different?

I would take recognition and appreciation for our efforts over higher prices any day. Imagine drivers on the road making room and happily waving us by, or someone walking past the gate stopping to thank us for the important work we do.
Very sadly, I just can't see it happening

Rumour is that one liquid processor have slashed price, delayed payments and cut A litre volume - heavily reliant on foodservice/catering. Empty shelves in supermarket may not equate to more total milk sold - imagine how much cheese all the pizza places use, how much cream goes to restaurants and how much butter into catering. I know people have to eat at home but may well eat less/different :(
