Drilling anyone?

Finnished the beans this morning, had two 100ac days and then 45 ac this morning . Back on spring wheat tomorrow 500ish ac left but talks of a good wk so hopefully make a big dent in what’s left . Didn’t think we would get hardly anything drilled in March but we have been lucky with the weather . I feel quite privileged to be in this job at the moment, alone in the middle of nowhere away from the crowds and madness that’s going on in the world .

World and his wife are walking everywhere round here today some even on the footpaths. Drying out fast as we shuffle clods trying to make beet seed beds

First day out since first week in Nov drilling oats into some fairly choice stuff that was ploughed 4 days ago but if it's left any longer will be like concrete . It's far from a perfect seed bed but the rollers will finish it off ( if we get them over it )

I'll get onto light land and spring barley tomorrow

Just a heads up for anyone who is only just ordering seed or is waiting for some. We (and I know other merchants too) are starting to run into some issues in getting 3rd party haulage to deliver seed etc. Hauliers are being directed to help in other areas and I heard of one case where two artics just didn't turn up to collect and deliver some seed.

We are also seeing some problems arise as staff are having to self isolate because of potential contact. Which is having a knock on effect. Likewise if we lose production staff in a seed plant we cannot just pull in casuals without training. Contingency plans are in place, but health or risk to health is the driving factor. Same applies to mobile processing of farm saved seed.

Please bear with the supply industry if we don't manage to get things to you as quick as we would like.

Nice ploughing even if it's not fashionable, like complimenting a nice joint of beef but you never here anyone say the same about a chicken
