winter oats for whole crop question

needing summat to bulk up a crop from some ground going back into grass....will winter oats head up OK going in now?
(for some reason, apparently spring varieties are in short supply!)

I was checking, having accidentally used winter barley on a (smaller) site a few years ago. Grew fine......just never headed and looked like tall grass.
A pal has got spare, and I'm taking a 10-12 acre field back in hand after several years of maize.
Undersowing grass.

I had considered a brassica - done that before for a bit of sport.... but this site is 12 miles away, and those bales wuzz HEAVY brother.
