My First Tractor

Bought my First tractor at 13 from a sale. I was shaking when it got knocked down. International 574 - £380. Still have it. Does 30mph flat out goes straight off the Rev counter. Good brakes, Straight gearbox no TA. You will not beat them for a road runner at 16. Fords of that era are horrible in comparison, John Deere too slow, leyland go well but don’t stop, masseys are way more expensive and are horrible to drive imo. David browns are too slow but cheap.

I will add. If you buy it.

Remove the valves on the bottom of the diesel tanks and drain them. Flush them out. Cut the gauzes off the valves, blow all the pipes out with an air line, fit a large in line filter before it gets to the filters so you can see build up.

Put a new lift pump on and new fuel filters.

Fit a new heater plug and make sure it works.

This will save a lot of heartache mine made a mechanic of me before I left school.

i had a 574 for yesrs, it was a really handy little tractor, it was a breather and used oil but to be fair the international engines all seem the same like that, pretty crap, 475 had a Perkins engine which was much better if you could get one of thise you would definately be on a winner!

Apart from that the steering hydraulics etc were much better than equivalents at the time, i had to admire what i believe to be torsion bar suspension on the top links, really commom spool slices so you can upgrade to more spools or double acting and perhaps en extremely primitive form of a forward reverser ha ha.
We had a 475 here, very good tractor, looking back my father gave it away to a small holder, it only had 3500 hrs and he sold it for 2 k. It was back in the mid 80s but was cheap. Why did they only make that model with a Perkins?

my understands of such things where multiple engines are fitted is supply issues i could be wrong? my experience is the tractors were ahead of their time but the std intentional engines were rubbish(but they did keep going just badly), well compared to perkins as jd engines were terrible at time too, new liners anyone :ROFLMAO:

we had a similar sized jd 30 series and an 574 intentional both same age, the international was a better tractor just smaller cab.

I think the article in CT cited supply issues.

674's had the TA. Handbrake was another poor part with them, would wear it out if drove 5metres with it on. Was easy to do as only had a small warning light on the dash
Most were replaced with an indicator light about the size of the top of a coffee mug that irritated the feck out of you so you wouldn't miss it!

this was mine, got it in 2006 i think with a ceased engine for £250, we fit another engine. Cab and stuff was really good shape and had 2 spools and working torque amplifier.

It woked well but the replacement engine was fairly average i had always intended to rebuild the original but never got around to it...
sold it in 2017 for 2k
