About a year. Got it so I could keep my fitness up in the winter. Don’t like riding in wind and rain. Quite like being able to do a hour long productive work out. Very pleased I got it now, am on level 14

Yes Hancock is talking about banning outdoor exercise, you'll soon be on level15! I got quite fit on zwift in the winter, racing is a bit mad though.

An outdoor exercise ban would be a shame. Just done one of my regular loops, seen more bikes than cars. Everyone sticking to the rules perfectly.

Yes I continue with 20 or 30 mile loops three times a week . The daily round of headlines followed by press conferences make a ban quite likely. It’s not hard apparently, for the daily fail to find an image of someone sitting on a park bench. Ministers have better things to do than field questions on such misbehaviour, the simple thing would be to tighten the rules.

I have taken to zwift in the last week, this time last year i was at my fittest i had been in years, we had experianced a horrendous 18months as a family and i through my self head long in to the bike a usual sunday am was 70-80 miles and a weekly avg of 250-300 i sustained this while holding down a full time job etc and then early November bang! I found myself sobbing in a doctors surgery pleading for some help, i ended up having 12 weeks off the bike and work attending counselling and facing up to tragedies not burying my head in the sand, 2 weeks ago and 2 stone heavier i got back on the bike just as Boris announced his new rules, the bike bug had already bitten me again, however with a heavily pregnant wife we have been told to be even more careful with the virus thing

Now i am trying to zwift once a day, loose the weight and resist the fridge! The plan is to get back to last years fitness for next year but in a controlled manner without burning myself out, and being in a position to ride a century for the charity that supplied my counselling in a respectable time.

Well good luck with all of that. Speaking from my own experience, exercise can make a huge difference to mental health, ironic really since riding on uk roads is a “mad” thing to do.

I totally agree, cycling has made a massive difference to me, much more than just weight loss.

Thank you I agree it does, and now i kick myself for not getting out at least once a week, but the trouble was i needed to get to a certain point and then it was cold wet and very windy, but as i say the bug has bitten again, i have even be looking at bikes and parts again.

Some of the pictures on the news tonight we're embarrassing, people mainly following the rules in small groups that were almost certainly of the same household but made to look like villains by the media.

Any recommendations for summer clothing?
Having only got back into cycling and got a decent road bike in winter I’ve only got padding leggings and waterproof jacket. Thinking a jersey and padded shorts? Or a bib? Any brands or places to buy from recommendations?
Any help would be appreciated ??

Aldi can be ok.

Id get a decent padded bib from decathlon. Decathlon are pretty good fullstop - no branded markup

Much of my kit is Dhb from Wiggle. Not silly money and decent quality. My Aeron bib shorts are really comfortable. Wiggle do lots of sales so if something is too expensive it will probably be on sale soon.

Lots of choice, here are my opinions for what they are worth,

FDX stuff off eBay is cheap as and not bad but i find the shorts only good for about 25 miles before getting uncomfortable, but have a few pairs for the shorter rides.

DHB stuff form wiggle or chain reaction, many people rave about their stuff i have a pair of shorts they are ok but thats all i would say, apart from i was teading cycling weeklys deals page and wiggle do have Dhb shorts on offer this weekend.

The shorts I really do recommend are Rivelo and I by them from Sports Pursuits. Its a website you have to subscribe to but the prices are very good Rivelo shorts are about £49.99 a pair but they are by far and away the best shorts i have ever owned a century is easy in them the padding is excellent quality and no annoying labels. I have a couple of pairs of shorts and i reckon each pair has covered a 1000 miles now and still have life left in them. The only slight downside is Sports Pursuit are a tad slower on delivey 3-4days rather than the modern order before midnight and its there for breakfast but in my mind its worth waiting for.

Great feedback, thanks all.

Is the consensus that bib shorts are better than waist shorts? Then a jersey over the top?
Thanks again

Proper raging with zwift this afternoon, all my rides up until today have been pan flat, today i did 40k and 700meters of climbing and the dam app froze on upload and lost my ride. So bloody angry with it! Wish i had gone out in the wind at
Least i can draw my route if the garmin has a paddy! Kinda puts you off virtual riding

I liked that but I feel your pain ? I have a Wahoo for outside, seems to cause less hassle than friends garmins.

I did 36 miles outside today but the wind was not fun, felt like it was pushing me down 1 climb and was very windy on top of the downs, no shelter for miles.

60km tonight. Wind was brutal. Did the route the wrong way round with a back wind the first half then cycling into it on the way home :scratchhead: proper amateur hour!
