BLW in winter barley

Which BLW spray (preferably a hormone) will take out groundsel, chickweed and speedwell in WB. Don't say leave it, land is generally weedy but majority of the weeds are the above, a few thistles. WB really struggling. PDM and Liberator didn't take out well established examples as weather prevented late autumn application. I think Ally would do it but am trying not to use SUs any more than possible. TIA @Brisel @robbie @ollie989898 @Hindsight @Ugo79 any others

Groundsel needs a SU. I’ll have a look at my database but it will involve one of the Starane XL/Spitfire types containing florasulam. Hormones ought to do the others.

The issue you will have is the speedwell in that scenario. The newer Arylex chemistry will do the other two from memory but I am way too hazy to remember if it has any effect on speedwell. These weeds (groundsel is straight up resistant to PDM in my experience) won't be much bothered by any application of liberator or soil acting type stuff if they are already emerged.

My gut feel is you will be stuck with Ally or Slalom (Starane XL/Spitefire in plain English as Brisel said above), both of which are ALS mode of action. MCPA will do half a job on groundsel but does nothing on chickweed, CMPP does chickweed but not much on groundsel and so on...

I concur with previous posters.

As way of background for future reference a weakness of Pendimethalin is matricaria species - so mayweeds and groundsel. In years gone by I used to add a small dose of Lexus (flupysulfuron) to the autumn Flufanacet + DFF + Pendimethalin mix.

Spring control of Groundsel relies mainly on SU or Forasulam, both are ALS inhibitors. Metsulfuron (Ally) is weaker on groundsel. Groundsel best to have some Tribenuron in the mix or Florasulam. To encourage debate there is possibility of clopyralid - but limited weed spectrum. Speedwells at this time - Harmony M (metsulfuron = thifensulfuron) or Arylex. If use Arylex its weakness is matricaria species.

Speedwells - Ivy leaf or Common Field speedwell? Speedwells tend to be a low growing early senescencing weed. If at low levels do they need to be totally controlled? Only you will know of course

Pixxaro - you may need some SU / Florasulam to beef up activity on groundsel.

Plenty there to discuss with an agronomist.

Arylex isn't great on groundsel but will do smaller plants. It will do the others.

Clopyralid is good on mayweeds and will kick several shades of crap out of groundsel but you will need a high rate and you certainly won't want to see the price...! MCPA will have an effect on groundsel but not much. HBN will do chickweed but has a cut off pretty soon, usually GS32 which may already have passed. Again, nothing very big >4 true leaves. Check the product labels.

@Flat 10 why don't you want to use SUs? They are best for what you've described & the groundsel is the real problem in the mix here. I appreciate that weed resistance is a problem and there are questions as to the persistency of metsulfuron when osr is the following crop.

I think there is an arylex + florasulam product but I can't remember the name.
Double barrel products like Avro (AllyMax type thing) which is met and thifensulfuron will normally clear up most BLWs but weak on cleavers also its asking for SU resistance to use them repeatedly.

Clopyralid make your nosebleed its so expensive and a weird weed spectrum. Bromoxynil a bit pants on its own.

Haulauxifen + florasulam + clopyralid is available as Dakota or without clopyralid as Zypar

I will use SUs if required just my knowledge of hormone spectrums is poor and want to improve.
