Groundswell 2020

People keep asking if Groundswell has been cancelled yet...and the answer is no. We will make a decision one way or the other in a week or so, but the situation changes so rapidly that it's hard to call where we're all likely to be at the end of June. We haven't called it off yet as there doesn't seem to be any advantage to do so, it's not as though exhibitors/speakers/delegates are going to say 'Oh well there's no Groundswell this year, we'll go to that show in Yorkshire/Switzerland or whatever'.

So bear with us, we're hoping things will change soon and we'll be able to safely gather together and get on with life, meanwhile we hope you all keep well.

Many thanks for comments. I still feel things might calm down by the end of June, but it's looking increasingly unlikely. We've had various ideas about doing an online conference...I don't know about anyone else, but it doesn't really appeal to me. But then I'm old. We will be posting as many talks as we can muster from the speakers we'd lined up, on the Groundswell youtube channel.

If there's a clamour for a zoom type conference, we may reconsider. What do you think?

I think a online conference would be a great idea John, we (TFF). Would be more than happy to help with hosting it etc and any technical help, we are going to be running webinars for AHDB and others soon so have already investigated the “how” and have solid plans in place

commercially you could ask for donation via PayPal etc at the end of each seminar maybe or get what would have been stand holders t8 sponsor each session like crop tech etc do ?

i can’t see any reason why a seminar could not work just as well online as it would have live ?

give me a call or PM me if you want to discuss / take this forward ?

I think an online "conference" would be very hard to manage with so many delegates. A series of webinar recordings would work though, perhaps with some sort of facility to submit questions to the presenters for reply in "slow time".

I know you may not want to compete with other events but would a potential indoor conference style day work later in the Winter? Pre-xmas maybe?

May compete too much with ORFC and other stuff and it won't be as much fun esp if no bar. A bit like No Till on the Plains but breakout sessions and some interesting food to eat

i don’t think we will see any live shows or conferences for another 12 months yet, not until a vaccine exists

other stuff maybe return to normality in the much shorter future but i can’t see it for mass gatherings/ pubs etc for a long time
