What’s the typical cost to sell a farm machine at auction, ie seller fees and buyers premium ?

what does eBay charge to sell a farm machine by auction ?

are there other websites you use to sell farm machinery by auction ?

We have a development list of updates and upgrades planned for Farm Classifieds over coming months and are investigatIng the possibility of offering a low cost auction option to sellers. Assuming it was much cheaper than alternatives would such feature be something you might use ?

Instead of auction sites ,,why not free ad sites ,,plenty on FB ,,worse of two evils ,sell by auction and loose a lump in sellers commission(ebay the same ) or fixed price in the free ads and wonder if the interested buyer will actually turn up

Auctioneers locally are doing inline auctions and their fees have been 10% buyers commission for or items 2k and under and 5% there after. Robbery really ?
Doubt seller gets away free either

Do you need the grief and hassle of it on top of everything else you are involved with?
Much to love on TFF but classifieds never really been one of them.
Leave it to Facebook sites I’d say. After dealers websites that’s most people’s go to place to look these days.
Not so sure online auction is the way to go. Even most of the stuff on eBay isn’t auctioned these days.

TFF Farm Classifieds is free - always has been unless you are a dealer (and it’s free for them at the moment as well !)

TFF Classifieds works a lot better than you might think - it’s the uks second most viewed farm machinery classified site (auto-trader is ranked no1) a lot of machinery gets sold on there

can i be bothered ? if there is demand and we can offer something cheaper and better than others for farmers while making a few £ then yes !

Are you looking to guarantee payment to the seller?

no, that’s a big can of worms

the way it might work would be similar to ebay - ie the deal remains between.buyer and seller, the auction just sets the price while matching buyers to sellers

It seems to be used mostly by dealers though and as its
free at the moment would make it attractive to use to alternatives.

that’s robbery - i was thinking this possible for either a small fixed fee per auction OR. a small buyers premium %

dealers just have a lot more machines to list - far more farmers use it than dealers

adding auction functionality would be more a farmer thing than dealer i think as well ?

Alot of the bigger deals on Ebay are now done on the buy it now, make an offer
rather than auctioned .

Are you thinking money handling as an agent, or just providing a platform for private transactions.
How about the inevitable disputes that arise?

no money handling, just a listing fee or a buyers premium commission if the item sold

it would work like ebay in other respects (dispute etc)

Wouldn’t bother with the auction bit, but 1 thing the TFF Classifieds needs sorting is the items sold that are still listed for sale.

that is being sorted - it’s up to a seller to mark items as sold, after 3 months a listing should be deleted automatically but it’s not been working .... that will be fixed very soon

It’s lacked anyone to really get their teeth into it and get it sorted to be honest but @Mark Hatton is now looking after it full time and his first job is to sort out these things
