HAS THE PENNY FINALLY DROPPED??? #BREXIT2016

Has it sunk in yet as to westminsters future intentions for UK ag????? it couldnt be clearer from where im standing these politicians have voted through a bill to stop area payments and have voted against proposed amendments which could save farmers from competing with imported ag products of much lower standards, we will be flooded with cheap crap from the US now!

The big question is do all these farmers that voted for brexit now realise what they have done? i wished that i would be proved wrong but unfortunately the outlook is not good from here on!

I'll admit it doesn't look great but I liken it to being in a pub where everybody has drunk a little too much and a fight is about to break out. All well and good finding the door but you've got to have the balls to work your way home on your own.

i ask because most were adamant that by voting brexit they were taking back control of uk ag, a bonfire of red tape, no more form filling and trade deals to BENEFIT uk ag, does letting in substandard produce from the us BENEFIT us?
It gives you a unique selling point. A justification for a premium price. Those who choose to ignore will get what they pay for. Remember you will never catch all of the fish in the sea, so don't aim to.

I'm happy to be one of your odd ones, and I suspect our ranks are growing especially since the virus and people becoming jingoistic about only buying British in the future.

Don’t fall into the trap of believing the lie that anything that isn’t “British” is crap

Jeez, not all this again......look @Bossfarmer we voted to leave nearly 4 years ago. At that point it was obvious what was happening to farm subsidies, no one in the UK political scene likes them, Left or Right, so one way or another, even if we'd ended up being some sort of EU satellite state we'd have lost them. Since the vote we've had 4 full BPS payments, another due this winter. Possibly another after that if the current virus crisis means the BPS tapering gets put back a year. And another 5-ish years of tapering BPS payments to come. That means by the time BPS disappears as a result of the 2016 referendum you will have received over £500k in subsidy (based on your own previous admission of what you get each year) before any environmental schemes you may be in. If you haven't managed to use that time, which will be over a decade, and large amount of free money to either rearrange your business so that it can compete on an open global playing field, or cashed your chips in by selling up because you think you can't compete, then I for one have no sympathy.

We don't believe that everything non British is crap.
BUT we are not allowed to use hormones in our beef animals, and we have to keep our poultry sheds empty for longer as we are not allowed to wash our chicken in chlorinated water, etc etc. It is the prospect of imports produced by systems that have been outlawed in this country that we object to.
ALL we ask for is a level playing field, and at the moment we will be far from that.
The only option we will have is to convince the UK consumer that what we produce is better in some way, or sell at a price where we struggle to profit as we have extra costs.

Seen in the current circumstance, the majority of the UK population (thats the English) may well see that supporting the other Home countries (NI,Scotland,Wales) at every level is indeed too expensive ,especially when effectively prevented from using their freehold properties in those areas. It is for you to explain and assure that your product is best value when compared on essential criteria such as quality ,wholesomeness , flavour, nutritional density, ethical production etc.
It is difficult and wrong to discredit your competitors for you will not reliably know the detail of their methods. It is for you to satisfy your customer. Unless you can, you will not succeed.

I think the key word in that is most, how do you know it was most ?
to answer your question it depends on the produce, in what way it is substandard and the price, for example if the were going to let in tractors that were every bit as good as a fendt but the wheels rusted more and they were half the money that would be of great benefit to a lot of us and we would put up with rusty wheels
