I'm sorry, have I upset you Shumungus? I havent argued with anyone. In fact, I wholly appreciate every bit of advice I have received so far.
No you haven't upset me in anyway and my post was typed before I seen your expression of appreciation. It's just your original posts rekindled memories I have of dealing with uneducated experts. I mean no personal disrespect to you and welcome your posts.

That's still 7x my estimate so I think it's safe to say I was way off! What sort of cost would I be looking at for that quantity? I wonder weather it'd be best to level using the surrounding soil? I have no experience in this area I might add.
If you cant find a friendly farmer as described, might be worth having a word with AR Richards at Market Drayton as they do lots of pond filling I believe and have all the kit( tractors and trailers)..... and run a recycling centre so may have all fill that is needed?

Doesn't cost to ask? speak to Andrew Richards

If pond is fed by the pipe in photo, it may need to be eliminated otherwise area will be a bog in winter months
It is a drain off the road, into the pond which has an overflow into the river that runs along the boundary. I'm assuming I'll have to 'connect' the drain from the road to the overflow into the river.

Will absolutely give this a try. Many thanks.

Seems a shame to destroy something that has more wild life benefit than anything else suggested. 'Tis such a small area why can't it simply be enjoyed? Looks like a fab spot for newts and many other amphibians & no I'm not being facetious. :) looks like flag iris there too so it is already diversifying.
