Thank you Blaithin for the photos Canadian farmers dont hang around . Straight at it as soon as the snow clears. Will there be a market for spring threshed grain ? And what sort of deductions will apply ?
The Combine Forum seems to have gone into limp mode at the moment so were relying on you for progress updates on Spring work and mood among farmers .

No time to hang around if you still have to get a crop off before you can put one in.

Not sure why some are already going so hard seeding unless they just have that many acres and not enough workers/equipment/time. Forecast is cold and it was still early the two weeks ago when they started. Old farmers tales say don’t start until the trees start to bud, and that isn’t yet. Usually by mid May it’s safe sailing. Last year there was some serious rough luck with canola germination because it was too cold.

Spring threshed canola looks to be good quality although it’s VERY dry. They’re saying it’s free fatty acid profile is bad though, no clue what that even is, never heard about it before, so don’t know how it will affect price. Oil is high and most green counts are good otherwise.

Spring threshed barley I’ve seen is ok considering. Lots of peeled and some mildew so it’s feed. Dry.

Spring threshed wheat is awful. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen such bad stuff. Full feed. Mildew, frost, the start of sprouts and swath heated in some. Dry at least.

I don’t deal on the price side so no clue what discounts or sales are being offered.

Your wording made it sound like Kangaroo Valley was somewhat close to Tamworth for me to have seen. I'm thinking that's not what you were meaning though...

We drove down from Brisbane, didn't do much sightseeing in other directions.

Plenty of colour change when you drive out of the Daintree and into Cape York. Not really what I was meaning in my initial post though ?
No I meant down in off the coast below Sydney , bit different down there

I do wonder how the fires have served them all :(
Cape York sounds scary.
Touristy Townsville suited me tbh:love: happy days ...?

Picked up the meat yesterday. Was guessing the steer was around 1100-1200 lbs, hanging weight was 644 so was fairly close. All the boxes took up the entire back of the jeep!

For some reason they packaged the steaks individually instead of in pairs so it feels like I have steak coming out the cracks in the wall. Many, many small fillets. It's always a wonder to me which cuts different butchers do. Took one out to Sous vide later today, see if the little barsteward leaves a better taste in my mouth than he did some days when he was alive! ?

Got a massive problem with mares tail in the raised beds so are abandoning it for the year to try and spray and kill it.It really is an awful weed, difficult to kill and just spreads relentlessly.

Ploughed and cultivated a plot in the field by the house instead and you can see where I’ve done another one just over the hedge for potatoes....to my fathers annoyance as it’s going to need fencing off from the cows.

Had a rose breasted grosbeak at the feeder this morning. Never seen one before!

Chickens were helping out in the garden. Supposed to get some good rain this week so leaving it uncovered a bit longer to try and catch that moisture.

Splurged on some giant blocks of cheese a while back. Figured I’d test out my new vacuum sealer and freeze them. Finally got around to it this morning. It’s slick!

Also took all the ladies in to get spayed last week. They’re rocking their shirts and not happy about their confinement.

How many = crazy cat lady.....

I've had one of those grosbeaks coming to the feeder the last couple days as well. I'm waiting on parts for the tiller to do my garden, hopefully this weekend. How come your vet puts those shirts on the cats. Mine didn't do anything like that, just stitched them up and sent them home. I only have 2.
I can't keep cheese long enough to freeze it, but I do have one of those vacuum sealers. Love it.

Never heard of the shirts before. Usually they get cones. Haven’t had a cat spayed in years though. These ones are on 10 days of confinement and then have to go in and get their stitches removed. They look like they’ve been stapled together.

I made a rule years ago for males only as neutering is cheaper. Turns out males are more likely to have urinary blockages and that’s getting stressful to try and manage so I took the opportunity of a year of kittens to boost my female numbers. As the males age out hopefully I’ll keep less health issue-y girls around.

(As all three were treated for mange and the one on the left is blind in one eye so obviously they’re healthier than the boys :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: )

Yes, we boys can be a pain when it comes to health issues, some real some imagined.:ROFLMAO:
Mine didn't get staples, just stitches. The vet I use used to be a large animal vet for the province so he's a little more used to people making decisions about animals based on economics.

Oh my vets fairly economical. She’s also a large animal vet and the one I’ve been dealing with for the mastitis cow. I won’t be charged more for the removal of stitches so it’s just the pain of loading them all up and carting them back to town. Vet practices change all the time so what was common ten or twenty years ago isn’t necessarily now. That’s how I always see it when they all of a sudden switch methods.

I get a discount for doing 3 or more too ?
