Tyres walls. Silo

Anyone using truck tyre walls to cover their silos. Are they any good. I cover with lorry tyres but they are hard to work with and slow. Can your own supply of tyres be made into tyre walls.are they heavy enough

Think we had to pay for half the bundles we got tyres covered the rest was a few years back now can’t just remember the way of it. Need to sort thru tyres and send ones with wire for more side walls this summer

Moved from car tyres to lorry walls this year.. early days as only covered one pit, initial thoughts are much easier to store, easier to handle, cleaner, just as good weight. I’d keep some full tyres for the front of the put perhaps, but can’t believe we used car tyres for so long when these were available!

What have you done with your old car tyres?

We got rid of all our tyres last year. Take a tonne of car tyres in and pay £100 and you get 4 bundles of sidewalls ‘free’

if they pick up the car tyres they charge £1 per tyre rather than a tonnage rate

So you effectively pay under a quid a tyre wall and get rid of your tyres foc ?

Yea that’s pretty much it

we are only a few miles from the recycling centre so it was handy and it tidied up the yard, easier and cleaner to use and not too costly to get rid of a waste product

Now charging £30/bundle. Even if you take in tyres. Get smaller ones free but I’m not convinced they’re heavy enough.

Just as well we have all tyres gone then. Yes, the light ones aren’t great and a pain if they get mixed with the bigger ones as aren’t as easy lifted with the pallet toes

These are heavy especially the super singles . 100 by 30 foot covered in 1.25mins with one man on a jcb and one over 50 ex super hero

If it's not covered tyre to tyre the birds will land on the cover and fill it with holes

Had them picked up. 1700 of them. It was not cheap, but I’m very pleased with how the farm looks now. I know of some that have found a hole that they can go in to.. cheaper but not kosher!

I’m very jealous of you guys able to use the semi sidewalks. We generally cover 13-16000 tons(wet) of silage tire to tire. Everyone really complains and a couple of us end up doing a significant amount of the throwing. 80ft wide pits take some tossing. Sidewalls would improve life
