Neonic resistance

This kind of post is massively unhelpful. Currently the NFU and Bayer are lobbying the government for the return of neonics. It is clear that UK agriculture’s interests are closely aligned with those of the large chemical companies so, IMO, you should refrain from repeat this kind of fake news. You may find phrases such as “good scientific”,”toolbox”, and “free market” useful in your future, and hopefully more rational, posts.

they are wasting their time. Why is this fake news? are you in denial? canadian farmers reporting neonics losing efficacy and not working, this is important information.

I as much as anybody moaned like hell when neonics went but even I acknowledge it would be better to work within a more balanced ecosystem than rely on annihilation which leads to development of superbugs.
I banned growth regulators here a couple of years back. We have managed without.
I have greatly reduced insecticide use and have managed ok. From now on all insecticides are banned here.
I am looking at fungicides next. I really think we are playing with fire sloshing these things around with little knowledge of the implications for soil life.
Herbicides are more difficult. It’s a work in progress. And I just have to accept that some crops are a non starter without lashings of chemicals so will have to be dropped. Frankly I won’t miss them.

i think you are right. I don't have any issues with using chemicals, however are farming systems have been COMPLETELY reliant on them and trying to deny that is futile. I dont know why the NFU are spending time and money trying to get a chemical back that will have had resistance building up anyway due to the complete reliance on it.

Irony is often lost in the written word, but perhaps I have seen what I wanted to see in fudge's post?

Bayer and the NFU are no doubt lobbying for the return of Neonics. They want to make shed loads of money.

The flea beetle across the pond, meanwhile, have other ideas. It's not fake news, how can this be fake news?

i really don’t think lack of Neonics is why csfb is an issue, it’s easier to lay blame than take responsibility or ever admit we maybe might have farmed in a less than perfect way !

hard truth is far to much osr has been grown in too tight a rotation and insecticide have been abused, IPM and beneficials lather ignored. I am willing to bet that even with neonics osr would still be very hard to grow in the uk now ........ what’s going on in Canada backs that up !

no wonder we have resistance, what’s next ? wheat ? then what happens !

Adam is right - UK ag has to stop living in the past and start looking for the kind of innovative future solutions our customers want and our children’s environment demands

It was very hard to grow OSR here in South Cambs before Neonics were banned due to CSFB..
And Rape was on a six year rotation.

Hopefully the nfu isn’t spending too much time and money on a lost cause like this. I have to laugh when prominent nfu farmers make videos etc saying that the neonic loss has ruined ‘sustainable’ osr farming in the U.K. nothing sustainable about complete reliance on one single active ingrediant!

At the time they were banned they had started to fail anyway.

Nice idea to farm without insecticides and growth regulators. Weeds though, and, to a lesser extent, diseases, will always need chemical intervention whilst we apply the amounts of nitrogen fertiliser we do.

We don’t have neonics, therefore this is not important. The Aussies have glypho resistant ryegrass, even that is not important.

Agree with you, and mono cultures.
