I’m sure my grandad said he had a couple of cartridges handy that had wheat in them, just in case, could that be right ?

Back in the 60's we used to have girl guides camping one week each year in one of our fields. Used to get trouble from young lads coming up from a local village. Father had the same, a handful of 12 bore cartridges loaded with wheat to deter them.

I know a former rough lad from Sunderland (he's squared himself up and made a good life for himself now) when he was younger he admits to riding his crosser in farmers fields and getting shot at with cartridges full of wheat and rock salt. He said it really fecking hurt.

Our tractor was parked on a job overnight about 3 miles from home about 3 weeks ago. Turned up the next morning to find the cab vandalised. We found very distinct tyre marks leading to it, and even caught them on a trailcam used by one of the stalkers to pick up deer. Called it into police Scotland that morning, they logged it and told me a local officer would call back asap. 5 days later an officer wobbled into the office to take a statement. I showed him the photos of the vehicle and tyre marks on the field and said the tractor had been moved to the dealer to be repaired but that it would be available for fingerprints etc. He responded that he "might take a look at the tractor but there's nothing I can do with the photos as you never put a sign up warning of CCTV coverage". He never visited the tractor and I've not heard anything since.
Report to the Chief Constable CC the local MP. Take no prisoners - the pen is mightier than the sword. Local papers and social media will lap it up. Show your restraint in the email to the both of them.

Been having a lot of people walking around at night lately and we’re a few miles from anywhere. Luckily the huntaway picks them up with her nose and goes chicken oriental, the house is much taller than any buildings so I can scan with my lamping torch and a few times I’ve found people walking at 1-3am, probably fishing but their nowhere near footpaths when the lamp gets on them and then they run full pelt across a very rocky path, into the car at the end of the lane and gone. Have the 24/7 direct mobile numbers to most of the local CID, within minutes they’ve picked the cars up on ANPR at local village and then knock on the door following soon after, had some come from over 100 mile away last week, no idea why though, fishing? Badger baiting? Drugs? No idea but anyone going through the yard these days thinks we have a Rottweiler as the huntaway is a spitting image.

Could be after poaching fish or deer, digging badgers or lamping foxes? 100 miles is a long way to go for a wander at that hour....

Only coastal Sea fish, no deer. Digging badgers or drugs would be best guess. They arrived mid afternoon going of the ANPR though then left 01.30... very suspicious anyway

You can have a gun cabinet next to your bed, I have. Keep the bedroom windows open.

Correct - and locked with the keys 'secured' and their location known to you only. Someone I know ;) has just that additional arrangement but containing just two rifles; a centrefire and a .17HMR. And used for fox only

One of things that concerns us, as home on-line shopping grows, the number of delivery vans we get here. Some will be here when no one is around
So far, we don't appear to have had anything nicked, but we think it is only a matter of time.

Correct - an Amazon, Hermes, et al delivery van gives you the right to roam. We used to intercept everyone that strayed. Now when I challenge a van - or private car - with a floor full of coffee cups, crisp packets, cardboard boxes, jiffy bags or night-time smelly takeaway and they ask me for a nearby address I just politely turn them round and give them the directions. What more can you do? Those drivers have eyes, ears, friends, make pub talk and maybe occasionally work 'overtime'.
I get pi**ed of with 'neighbours' who won't or can't be bothered to give proper directions. Night, day, Sundays - they're here 'lost'. That's a new type of pandemic that we have to deal with. Why can't these online delivery companies funnel into a hub and one van delivers the parcels? The other day I saw two white vans, one delivering a plastic bag, the other a cardboard box to the same house at the same time. It's bonkers and a waste of time, diesel and bad for the roads and the environment. Oh, by the way, that central hub and one van delivery idea? - how about calling it the Royal Mail......

A girl needs a gun these days
On account of all the rattlesnakes

Correct - as long as the snakes she wants to shoot are 'rattles' not 'trousers' ;)

There’s 1 holding (2 houses) further down my lane, it’s rare if DPD, DPD Local, Hermes, UPS, DHL, Yodel, UK Mail and Royal Mail arnt all there daily, that’s without Tesco and Asda deliveries 3 times a week. Luckily most of the drivers are excellent and if the wife has a package (she has a business too) then they usually drop them with us and the neighbours pick up when passing. Yes it’s bonkers but last week there was a 2million parcel backlog with Royal Mail, Mail from the police to me sent first class last Thursday arrived today (8 days) Yet order off amazon with a courier before 9pm and it’s here before lunch.

Have got a parcel of tools to return. Royal Mail/parcel force £39....... Hermes (nice bloke) £6.99. Something like that anyway.

Royal Mail/ parcel force is a joke.

has anyone had a old gun cabinet and seen how long it would take to break into one?

Considering how cheap battery angle grinders are now it makes you wonder how long until we need to have added security even for 1 or 2 guns.

I guess stealing legal shotguns/rifles can’t be that much of a issue as there are enough illegal guns around to satisfy the armed robbing/gang shooting fraternity.

I agree with you - but why? Hermes in particular are as cheap as chips. There is a Hermes 'depot' (actually a 2 parking bay, 1000 sq ft industrial unit) about 20mins from us. Frankly it's filthy. No room for vans to load, they load everywhere else on the estate, on the kerbs and in the road, annoying other users big time and spreading parcels out all over the roadway. We collect from there sometimes if spares have been sent and they've missed us. Apparently HSE and the local council have all been there but I guess they are looking the other way

How some of the cars that you see there are legal, I've no idea, they are stacked to the gunwales with zero visibility and some have kids on board too. Perhaps that's why its so cheap...... here's a photo I took a few months ago. There's plenty others like this o_O

After lockdown they were busier than Christmas. Our postie said the same thing about Royal Mail, busier than Christmas but with half the staff, many off sick or just staying at home.

Royal Mail and Parcelforce needs reforming into a fit for purpose delivery outfit. It's part of our 'crown jewels' but struggling big time with poor management, entrenched ideas and outdated systems

Now back to the firearms under the bed....
