Jcb 310s gearbox

I've a 2012 310s. It's a great shovel for the yard but ifs big let down is on the road. It has to be driven at full speed to avoid the constant automatic changing gears. The gear change is harsh compared to my old 628. Is there any modification or updates for the gearbox. Is there anyway to modify it to manual only
Also how are you supposed to see the figures on the dash, totally hopeless dash

Last we had ours serviced by the dealer (maybe 3 years ago) there wasn't any updates to improve the gear changes. You could probably get the software numbers off the screen and ask.

3 to 4 is harsh so we tend to use the empty trailer mode as much as we can, would have been nice if they had put a change down button on the joystick.

i agree it's awkward on the road too but my usual answer is to stomp the throttle and two hands on the wheel to prevent a wobble of insanity at high speed!

My 2016 pre adblue 320s was always very jerky with the gears, especially in and out of torque lock. The new one is much better and it’s the same gearbox so perhaps they have sorted the software? Might be worth asking the question?

We just got a 2010 310s and I wouldn't say it's jerky . Just use it in empty trailer.

I used to like that gearbox because we didn't know any better but how we've a 2018 536.60 thr old gearbox is sh!t . 4th is too fast and 3rd too slow for yard work

Put the switch to manual mode ? I agree the lockup into 6th is harsh but you soon learn to ease off the gas at the lockup speed point and its pretty bearable.

All jcb boxes are harsh no matter what cause they dont modulate the oil flow in to the clutch packs like manitou do using a good old fashioned Valve and spring?

Software is never going to change that.

Software has changed it because this new one is sorted. It doesn’t drop out of torquelock or down a gear until about 1450rpm so you don’t need to keep it flat to the matt like the older one, which always seemed to be hunting gears, just take it easy and it holds the gear. Nothing has changed mechanically as far as I’m aware.

Yes hunting gears is a good expression
