My SiL has asked if it is correct that some cattle she wants to buy from the Wakefield area, that is in a 4 yr test zone, do not require a pre-movement test? I suggested a call to TPTB, but no one answers the phones!! ;)

Ta.
I bought some highlands from a tb4 area ,they weren‘t tested before i had them.My annual test was 6 weeks later.
Not sure if I’d have had to test them if my annual test had been just prior to them arriving though.
Her vet would know though

Cheers. So OK with young stock who might not have been tested, as the Holding might be 3 years since the last farm test?
Yep. Crazy I know. This is why it's a TB risk rating, it's not saying TB free. I actually think I would be safer buying cattle myself from a TB shoulder area that get regularly tested and get pre / post movement tested

a friend bought a TB4 cow, he was TB4, the cow was 6th calver, when he sold up, the herd test, of where she went, was 6 wks later, failed, riddled with TB, that cow, at some time, in her 8 years of life, got infected, badly, and spread it around. Makes a mockery of testing, that was the first TB test, of her life.

That’s mental surly they should be PMT before they move.
Nope not a requirement. If you're High Health I would say it's a sensible precaution to PMT along with other disease nasties on bloods. Trouble is this stupid stupid stupid Government made it so that your local vet won't do the TB regular training etc and they let out the statutory testing so now you have a monopolistic large private vet group that charges for private tests. Around me it's a flat fee of £150 + VAT for up to 10 animals.

So if you buy from a TB4 to a TB1 the person buying the cattle has to pay for a post movement test at there expense?
Sorry wrong way round, TB1 to TB4 = post movement test. (despite being pre movement tested )
Was chatting CHECS schemes with our vet last week and he recommended us to post movement test anything from a TB4, hence my brain fart, sorry!
