External brakes like a fastrac.
Prone to corrosion and erosion if not used and maintained very regularly. Shiny disks rust like billy-ho when not used for a few weeks in damp conditions. Pretty soon they crust up and become near useless until the discs are changed for new. What is needed is plenty of braking area and fast turning, low torque fat discs running in oil but not doing much because the exhaust brake or retarder keeps speed steady when transporting down steep hills. They need tractors fit for 50k and the 21st Century reality where farms and contractors transport as much as do field work. That must be one of the primary goals for any new design of tractor. Anything less has failed before it has landed.

Strange, we run a couple fastracs and never had any of problems you mention.

You probably use them very regularly [lots of tractors are parked up for weeks at a time], are not situated in the damper regions of the UK and don't use them on salty roads and probably park them indoors.

Of course if it suits you, you already have your ideal tractor in the Fastrac. So why consider anything else? [rhetorical]

Its definitely not my ideal tractor! Perhaps a new style 4220 would be.

One is a 1997 P reg only done 7k hours so it does sit about a lot! It probably shouldn't be here, but is not worth much second hand.

61 plate 2170 on original discs, only done 5.5k hours.

As you say external brakes aren't perfect, one of my friends sprays a lot of tatties and gets a lot of issues with mud getting between pads and discs. But the brakes on our fastracs have been a lot more reliable and cheaper to run than internal brakes on conventional tractors. A set of pads for rear axle £50. Brake disc £105. We just did the rear brakes on new Holland t7 200 at 5.5k hours and it cost £1600. Nothing the matter with them, we just did it as service job.

Your the man to get the fix perfected then as you have an obsession with mf faults
He would probably be the ideal man for MF to talk to, a once loyal customer who see’s their faults rather than one of the loyal fans who will accept practically anything as long as it’s dressed up in the right colours and with his hobby he probably has a better understanding of engineering than most farmers.

I know of one man that got a new MF tractor a few weeks ago , dropped off the lorry & when to put the plough on it & the lift would not work right, it need new software before it could go to work , The only way to make things better is to talk to the people that run them & learn by that ever day is a school day

Thats correct why dont they speak too us smaller lads we never get anyone here from the Factory yet have stuck with the brand & had the issues most have mentioned on this forum on several models
we also never see future new tractors put too use even in prototype form on any smaller farms do we?
Plenty of us could have so easily prevented silly things like putting toolboxes under diesel tanks from day1
You often wonder what sort of lemons design things that are so far removed from the Farming environment there meant to be working in.

Poor you.
sorry if i dont run CNH/DEERE/FENDT or any other brand but none float my boat SIMPLES.
the later two are over priced for a start.
Current JCB 4220 looks the yoke too have but i dont do much road haulage yet i guess the extra comfort might still be worth having one.
If Deutz uk had a better dealer network id possibly never had the 30 years of 6 pot masseys weve had since.

Not doing enough hours probably.
And you'd think that tractor designers would've come from a farming background or am I naive thinking that
