Has Spain got the 2nd wave ?

I have been trying to talk my brother out of his family holiday to tenerife for weeks now. Unfortunately they got suckered by the general advice not to cancel their holiday earlier this year because if they cancel they lose their deposit but if the travel agents cancel they get all their money back. Because they delayed there is a clause that says that if they cancel within a certain timeline they still have to pay 70% of the holiday cost even if they don't go! I informed him of all the reports of people turning up for their package holiday to find that their hotel is closed under governmental instructions. These people either had to sleep on the beach or pay hundreds for alternative accommodation that they had to organise!!! Luckily, after they looked into it, the travel agents cancelled the holiday as the hotel is closed until september. I wonder what would have happened if they hadn't started looking into it. I offered to pay my brother for his holiday because I would rather have them alive than three thousand in the bank! I can't believe people are putting their families at risk for the sake of a bit or sun that they can probably get next year with the benefit of a vaccine!

teneriffe is a tricky one - quarantine still applies from there but the FCO don’t have an “essential travel only” advisory out, like they do for mainland Spain, which means that travel insurance won’t pay out if you don’t go. Sounds like he had a lucky escape.

Sometimes I wonder how intelligent humans fail to see the obvious. Viruses have no brain and their survival strategy is not pre-planned but purely random. We are the ones with brains and we just have to understand how to use them. There is a high failure rate in this respect because we have an unbelievable superiority complex which leads us to behave like complete morons at times. Following a few simple precautions will improve our survival rate and in turn that of our economic well being. Ignore the obvious and there is trouble for all of us.

Yep

No Transmission = No Host

Virus dies out as it cannot spread

Not hard is it ?

Keep 2m and everyone wear masks and virus won’t find a live host

All these folk moaning because they have to quarantine on return. Blaming the government for not telling them earlier what was going to be obvious. Haven’t people an ounce of common sense or the ability to take sensible precautions and deny themselves every pleasure just once in a while?
To me, booking a foreign holiday is “asking for it” at the present time, but of course if it goes wrong it’s always somebody else’s fault.

If you look at Spanish figures you will see daily figures mean little or nothing as reporting varies during the week exactly as ours do. Only weekly figures are of any real meaning and they have been jumping fast!

I'm talking last 48 hours . do keep up .

Daily figures mean nothing, unless of course you just plain want them to mean what you want them to mean. (Think of kippers)
You need at least a week to observe a trend in any direction. Call back in a week!!!
