The 16k profit was just on his field of Linseed.
No he budgeted a 16K profit For the farm 400ac.
The linseed was 70 ton under budget. He said 25K under budget.

Now we have Peas that look worse than that, about 30% of pods have no seed in them, of the remainder they have between one & five seeds per pod.
Now a neighbour got less than half a ton per ha. Thats a fair guide.

You don’t need to be to smart to work out the loss on them.

Just thinking about this, as i've seen a few tweets over the last few days about how we shouldn't let children into the harvest field, let alone have a round on the combine. I got a PM last year asking me to remove a picture of our girl sitting in the jump seat on the combine as it contravened the spirit of farm safety week etc.....

It seems to me a sad state of affairs when we can't even let our own children see the harvest in action, what real risk is there if we bring the combine to a stop, lift/assist a child on, strap them into the spare seat and let them have a ride?

I get that there is a risk, but there is also a risk to letting them play contact sports, or ride a horse etc.
My kids spent hours with me when small in the parlour or tractors, grandkids love it here too, the one who lives nearby is 31 months old knows all the bits of kit by name, friday he came round while I was not in the yard, I came back to pick up the Turner to turn headland swath in some barley, he came round the corner with granny, saw me and I saw him say grandad and literally jump off the ground with joy as he knew he would get a ride, seat belt on and told exactly what to do,re not touching stuff etc hse would go mental, but as granny is a health visitor and spends her working life dealing with kids that suffer abuse, neglect or live with drunks and drug addicts I know where the risk is.

About ten yr ago i grew that red wheat, which only produced about four seeds in a full ear.
It did about half a ton per acre
No one ever worked out what went wrong

Started on 8.26 ha field of Gleam ww got rained off with 2 ha to do approx. sent 3 x 12 ton wooton trailer full loads off and 3 x as marston 10 ton trailer full loads so far so i usually think the as has around 9 ton when full and the wooton 10.5 ton when full . so around the late 9 to nearly 10 ton ha . It is second wheat that had a good dollop of cow dung . It will be down hill from now on as first wheat that was Dec sown doesn't look as thick . 79KG HL weight .

We are finding the wheats to be not too bad , second wheat following a very good year last year are doing 3.75t/a,
I think the firsts following peas coils and should do slightly better.
Winter barley did 3.25 t/a
Winter beans that looked great all year but just went backwards in the last 6 weeks did 1.3 t/a finished today.
Our peas are not expected to do much despite looking reasonable all year.
We are finding massive variations in yield in relation to soil types ( unsurprisingly) , luckily we are pretty heavy clay so the wheats held in well.
I’m hoping we just scrape a average harvest in a poor year.
Couldn’t have tried any harder so it’ll be what it is and won’t beat myself up.
I’m sure your all the same so if it isn’t there , wipe slate clean and start again it’s been a bitch of a year .

We are all aware of the FW pub yield rules, but there now seems to be a TFF harvest ‘20 yield rule where you can only post a yield result if it fits in with the agenda of solidarity within the drought* / wet weather* affected ( * take your pick as applicable or maybe both ?? ) and anybody else who has a good yield is clearly a liar or has bought that yield with lashings of distributor purchased inputs and will make no money ( again, choose either depending on the situation )

I’m trying not to be insensitive to those affected but I’ve heard some really good yields through parts of Dorset, Hants and South wilts this week ( on the chalk ) these yields aren’t representative of the national picture ( and won’t be responsible for talking down the trade ) but if they are true, they are true aren’t they ??

Can’t we accept that the UK is a very diverse country and yields can be very diverse even within a compact geographical area ?? and that if your soils and crops are drought / wet effected it’s not an attack on the size of your manhood or farming abilities, it’s a reflection of the realities of your situation...

Anyway, within the TFF approved parameters of posting verified yields on here my OSR did 2.8 t/ha, the one field of Planet that’s fit was 7.5 t/ha and the 2.5 ha of Basset I tried tonight before admitting defeat in that it really wasn’t fit was 11 t/ha + that’s it, warts and all and I’m confident that many will yield more than me and many will yield less and that’s it, rant over 🙄
