Storing barley in a shipping container

Has anyone any views on whether this would be possible? The containers are rodent and water proof... but also fairly airtight etc?

I’m looking at a fairly cheap way of storing about 6 ton as cattle/pig feed for my annual requirement

thanks in advance

I get 5 tonne of beef pellets blown into my container. No problems at all through the winter. Through the summer, you need to open the doors once a week to let some air in or it sweats. Find it works really well.

Thanks for the replies. Rodents are my biggest concern, we haven’t had many problems until this year and the little... seem to be everywhere!!

Also I will keep in mind that if it doesn’t work, there may be a fall back plan for the investment.

Pallet sized bulk bins with lids on work for me. Mine is outside but would make container stay clean and tidy. One big bag the size of a 600kg fert bag doesn't quite fit in a bin

If he has to buy the container/s bins not much more for the proper silo,if not then there's the option to store stuff more suited to the containers. Also the easiness of baggin the feed. I put a 28ton split bin up a few years ago not because I needed it then but it allowed capacity to expand.

IBCs with the lids cut open? Would need about a dozen, I'd imagine. Could stack them maybe 2 high in the corner of your clean shed. Can't see rodents breaking into them either. £20 each, or so - maybe £300 total when you include a blade for your jigsaw.
Yeh I’ve tried this, the little darlings can get in and out until they’re near empty. Then the air rifle gets handy 😉

A proper feed silo is not really that dear and is ideal for the job
Good point, tbh I thought they would bridge and be a pain to get it out? The farms I know with barley round here keep it on the floor in a grain shed. Would it need to be rolled first and then stored? As we currently roll when feeding as we think it goes sour after a week or so.

This could work, need a trailer though and space in the shed. Would a 6 ton trailer work?

6t trailer with a shoot will probably be single axle but would work .(heaped up)
You would be able to source your own barley off a local
farm and save a few quid also.
Dont need to put in shed just put a sh heavy tarpaulin over
the top job done.
Obviously handy for other jobs when empty.
