Atv services nr Ayr are going to be selling these. All electric 2 wheel drive off road bike . Looks very interesting. They’re from nz I think !View attachment 900760
They are seriously good - must admit I was really sceptical but that all evaporated in about 150 metres. Gobfuls of torque and low COG, it feels like a mountain bike with a cinderblock where the pedals would be.
Two wheel drive is better than expected, a bit "funny" when standing up at low speed as they almost seem jerky until you get them lined up and then you're off.
My next farm bike will be one of these

Steady, steady, no googling otherwise you'll come up with something completely unintended o_O

Anyway, I tend to walk around the place a lot. With dog, without dog. If it's a job and a tractor isn't needed then it's the old Hilux. But what about a bike? Not the pedal type, one with a motor.

Years ago I rode a Yamaha XT125 about the place. Road legal but it needn't have been. 6v electrics, lights went out on tickover when the battery was feeling the cold.

Forget quads and utv's - anyone checking the fences, gates and stock on a motorsickle? If so, what?

HK
Years and years, no, decades ago I did. I worked on a farm that even had ramps for bikes to glide over hedges and fences between fields. Used to check and move irrigation pipes using a bike. Riding down potato rows on a bike requires a bit of concentration!
A fairly near neighbour at home also used a bike for years, but he retired early. I got old early I'm afraid and haven't ridden a motorbike in nearly 45 years now. I'm still alive to tell the tale.
Basically I took the view that with a herd of dairy cows messing on my lane daily, when it gets damp in mid-summer like now, it gets very slippery indeed and while I can do slides and skid-turns on the quad, I would probably kill myself on a motorcycle.

I looked into the UBCO about 2 years ago however the importers were just a bike shop and I wasn’t impressed with them but think the bike is great.

The other thing was the price they were wanting, think it was something like £5.5 k.

If only they did 60 miles reliably on one charge ...........................
I think you’ll find they will do that and if you had to pedal a couple of miles without battery it’s not the end of the world.

Saw a local guy out on his yesterday which is an electrically assisted road touring bike and he explained it as allowing you to pedal as if you are on the flat.

Also he has the function to preset the route so the bike calculates the spread of battery energy so it lasts until you get back.

Theres a lot of clever tech in these new electric bikes, different assistance levels etc.

@JP1 ,get a demo and give us a review.

I weaned some calves last night and for various reasons tried to drive the cows away from the catching pen one further field away. After much running in the heat (30 degrees at 7pm), eventually I got the cows and bull away bar two cows. So I penned them next to the catching pen and miraculously they loaded in my trailer so I carted them across the field before getting the calves away. Fudge running out of battery and pedalling. I'm lucky most of my away groups get lookered in the week but if I have to do it it's 60 mile round trip. After 500 charges I still want that ebike / electric scooter to have an 85 mile range before I embark etc

i use mine fairly regularly sold the Suzuki to buy the ktm only a 200 but lovely and light and plenty fast enough it’s much better for farm riding than the full bore crosser

Year after i left school, so long ago can't remember when i managed to buy a secondhand, third, fourth who knows an auxiliary engine to fit on the front of bike, wonderful it gave me 20mph but would not think it suitable for farm use, i even had to help pedal it up hills.!!!!.

They should be fine now, I would expect Atv services would be one of the biggest sellers of Atv’s in Scotland. I’ll give him a ring and report back ! (y)
