AB15 2 year legume fallow

Whatever the figure say. Ab15 leaves a great legacy for following Crops. Somehow I got 5t/ac 2nd wheat 12m after AB15. (Seed off the heap, Dd on the green into dense oil radish cc) Usually 3.5t tops in that clay field. And nearby fields were only getting 3-3.5t.

How was the first wheat after it? How did you establish it etc? I'm thinking the soil ought be in great condition to direct drill, but after last year's rain....

Late Oct 17 was sticky conditions. Took a lot to kill dense clover/grass - took 2 goes, I felt it needed lifting to relieve compaction from the numerous flailings, Sticky conditions. 3-3.5t/ac.
Oct 2018 was much much better conditions - bone dry for Flatlifting, catch crop then dd on the green. Sometimes the Flatlift leaves an uneven field for drilling, so might run over it with 1" depth shortdiscs

Mine was flailed twice last year. Has just been left to grow this time. Must say I'm tempted to plough it! Although most likely I will disc it and power harrow tight behind.

Would that not lose some of the sequestred Carbon as CO2? As soil scientists tell us what happens when soil is inverted?...

Have three fields of AB15 which finished yesterday. Will go in to WW, and hope to take a cut off it first. It was topped end of June, the vetch and clover have come well but the grass has not. Was going to round bale and wrap but was not sure how the vetch and clover would ensile. Question is to cut now or leave a few weeks.

Surely (when it dries up again!) it will be easier to mow and wilt now, as opposed to late September, unless of course, you pre-cut Roundup? Then bale and wrap....

I think you should check your diary, you probably topped it at the end of March.
That was when I did mine in the second year.;)

If you are planning to put in WW then I will get it taken off to give it chance to regrow before the roundup. Takes a bit of killing.
What are you planning to do with cultivation?

Is there some bug that eats clover? Every single plant has been eaten in my new ab15 field. Grass all fine. No slugs - pelleted pre drilling, double rolled and pelleted again.

Clover seed weevil or some such from memory. Old timers had problems with land becoming clover sick I think. Someone will be better informed than me.
