Planet 1.9N 98%+ germ. Told it’s not worth the rejection risk for little extra over feed as haulage cost from Kent erodes the premium.
My load was at Ingils at Ormiston, heard Lindsays were the same.Who has moved to 8%? Presumably a reaction to expected skinning levels this year. Are the buggers taking claims from a lower level?
Hopefully your later cut Laureate will have lower skinnings. Seems to be worse with early cut, not too bad for a while, then bad again with anything cut late. Good Nitrogen levels though

In the old days you cut it open the whiter the grain the lower the n .
Scotgrain have upped their max to 8% for Laureate and 10% for Diablo. Deductions over 5%. Simpson’s are saying 10% for Diablo too. Our Laureate has been going in anywhere between 2 and 6% but he majority 4&5. Nitrogen’s around 1.4.That will be Diageo that’s dictated 8% limit then if it’s those two.
i think this year any which way they can find to reject it will be used. Many of the maltsters sitting on backlog of malt from last years intake.
Think more is made of skinning issue than need be. Don’t think it was as long ago as 2012 but might be but there was one bad skinning year when they upped the level they would accept and turned out that years crop gave the highest spirit yields on record.

These varieties seem more prone to skinning, but it’s what the Maltsters want is to to grow, I think they need to be more lenient.
We have 4 load of Diablo waiting to go to DundeeNitrogen’s definitely seem to be low. Even my “calibration“ field that got 130 units of N came back a 1.53N!!
Fourth year all Laureate for me and not found it particularly bad for skinning. Found Propino far worse in the couple of years I had it. Tended to ripen with the ear still standing up rather than hanging down.
Crops will take some drying out now though. One of Simpson’s dryers at Grainfax in Dundee went on fire last night which won’t help speed of uplift for us In these parts.

N between 1.6 and 1.85 so far
not getting germ till all in the shed and sampled properly
premium needs to be above £10 to make the risk worth it
So first field has come back as 10% skinned..... 1.4N 100%germ. Bugger
Just the pre delivery sample so it’s still in the shed.Did it come back home to you or did they just tip it in the same shed as the rest of the stuff they are taking in?
Won’t send it to a maltings for less than £10/tN between 1.6 and 1.85 so far

How are you getting on? Our skinning has been going up as the weeks gone on. Sample of Diablo has just come back at 10%.So first field has come back as 10% skinned..... 1.4N 100%germ. Bugger

Eh? There is barley everywhere around here.Hope to get back to spring barley for first time in almost a week tomorrow. Will see then how much a week of sunshine and showers on ripe crops effects skinning levels.
Last 4 loads that went away cut last Sat/Sun ranged from 0.8% to 1.2% so hopefully nothing too dramatic.
If it is, unless well sold on futures +£20 contract probably better holding on to it rather than chancing getting it in for a small malting premium. Wouldn’t be surprised if feed price come Nov/Dec is higher than malting price is just now.
