Getting conflicted views. I was sold on the panels because it gives a straight edge. Contractor says he’s seen some real disasters with panels and says go for A walls which are moveable but unless the steels and concrete are going to be double the panels they’re a lot more expensive!

I’ve 20’x1.2x.150 panels on my outside walls and have 3.6m high movable rocket walls for dividing,if there’s a disaster with panels it’s because of skimping on concrete or steel for the upright or massively overloading the panels.

I was always a fan of mass shuttered walls (have my own shutters,don’t use them anymore) panels are way faster and give you a bit more of flexibility in the future.

how do you rate the rocket walls? How did they compare cost with by the time you’ve put all the concrete and steels in for panels?

I like the rocket walls as they give me flexibility,currently I’ve moved them the opposite way across my clamp so I can use up my older silage,downside is you haven’t to push into them without a load behind them as the move out of line,you soon get used to doing it,also they are heavy somewhere around 3.5t not every loader can move them.

Also have A panels from craven concrete,lighter but not as good and I can’t see them lasting as long.

Six years since I bought my rocket walls compared to panels at £266 each this year,I’ll have to find the bill.

Can he pour a silo like the one earlier in thread? I’ve put down cubicles 20 years ago 6 or 8 at a time diy mixing. Saving was small. Work was difficult. Wouldn’t do it again.

I don't know what he can or can't do...
I am sure I will be corrected if wrong
Readymix firms buy materials in bulk Quantities and a high percentage of actual cost of concrete covers the self
employed driver and his lorry which he has to maintain rigorously and a lot goes to the actual company who own the drum and I would say a certain amount goes to cover someone else's bad debt
Also on a similar note I know that animal feed suppliers at least double their money on feed stuff

Was on for doing one like that until a structural engineer got involved, back to earth banks it is.

£286/rocket,so £1430 to do 20’ versus £798 plus steel for (150mm) 6” panels,can only load 1side unless you slot them into a girder.
I could still get the rockets for under £300 and there 3.2t not 3.5t as I posted.

It’s easy don’t involve one,my 12” shuttered wall clamp was built in 1982 and it’s had silage 25’ high in it with 15t shovel on it,it’s never moved a bit.

We concreted floor as well but paid for no concrete mesh or stone the apron around the side was done later by others

Those A shaped panels- bloody accident waiting to happen and a hotel for vermin. I'm all for panels provided they aren't moved about much.

I priced this system before doing our pits and it was haulage that killed the job for them. They were coming from Holland. I did like the idea of the U shaped panel as a centre wall so you have somewhere safe to walk between the pits.
