If I was confident the weather would play ball, I'd do the same. As is I've decided to lightly cultivate the surface as there is zero tilth.

There, all better now. Bit of a roll on Friday and then a month before drilling to monitor the nature.

Solo st. Discs just working. Tynes about 4". Did it twice so moved the whole lot. Was linseed, spring oats, ab15 for two years. Was very dry but I wanted some tilth. Not a worm in sight.
Presumably the worms had gone down to the moisture. Imagine it'll be full of them later in the autumn.

More like they saw that bloody great lump of yellow metal enter the field, thought bugger we have had two years of peace and quiet to get on with our lives building burrows and lo this farmer fella having waxed lyrical about the benefits of Organic Matter and soil fauna is now going to chop us in half and destory our homes. Turncoat. Well thats one possible view. The other is the land was so damn dry they had one down for some moisture. Best wishes, all.

They will be fine. Biggest nature beneficiaries seem to have been bean weevil ,slugs and daddy long legs.

I've left strips of the ab15 sound the field margins. Will test for organic matter again in another two years to see how much has been burnt up / co2 released. I'm not an evangelist - I'll test it all and see.

Drilled the 80ac yesterday. 250kg and some liquid fert. Pelleted. Some open slots but not bad.
Concerned about the acids given off by decaying grass. Hope I’m just begging paranoid! Hope the plants can get going sooner rather than later.
