Sitting tight here, not a lot to go in to be fair as everything ended up wheat year just gone, so a lot of breaks and a fair bit of Spring stuff to go in, just working Spring ground now.

I'm drilling sat. made the mistake of leaving it too late hoping for better weather last year and ended up broadcasting the seed on. it was either that or it was staying in the bag

not started yet as if we plough and let it dry out making a seedbed here is all but impossible and if it rains a lot we wont get back on, gone are the days of ploughing and pressing the lot then starting to sow as the last time we sowed early into dry seedbeds yrs ago it part germinated then blued off and that was in the days of baytan almost as bad as this last years extreme wet ,so we are this year plough a field sow a field either directly behind or within 48 hours if needs be, been spreading muck on all the non first ww some 3rd cut hay-lage to bale tidying margins and a bit of recreational subsoiling and spraying off greening stubbles for a sunday monday start

Not going to start until October. Looking back in old diaries to 2014 we had 2 pretty bad autumns before so sowed early. By mid October all the black grass was through and I’m sure that’s what’s still coming through now.

Really trying to wait as long as I can. Ideally 10th Oct, not helped by early maize harvest this year. Just trying to slow the Blackgrass as much as possible. Had the biggest return of blackgrass seed ever this year after no pre ems and rubbish spring control this year.

Location in UK please, and altitude. Blackgrass status of your farm and the individual field. For blackgrass status you really need to post individual field herbicide use for past four years to allow me / us to guage the true blackgrass status. On many farms in Lincolnshire seed is better in the bag for some time to come - but it won't be. But this will help chem and seed suppliers to recover lost sales from last autumn. Cheers.

yep, and they are backing off the rain next week somewhat now.
Great drying weather has untouched stubble good to go (with a Claydon) but Trio ripped "tank trap" tramlines are going to be fun and games.

Indeed. Was hoping for grass to go in next week. It still will I think. But not wheat.

Blackgrass land needs roundup at some point, and it's better on in October pre drilling than march pre redrilling.

Well there are a few out now 'placing their bets'. Time will tell. When the roulette wheel comes to a halt sometime in November, or possibly March when the redrill glyphosate goes on, or possibly May when the BYDV / Take All shows up we will know better who judged the autumn 2020 drilling season correctly. What fun. Black 8 for me.

Its ploughing over lovely here with a nice bit of moisture. Plan is to plough another 50 acre for barley and then 40 acres continuous wheat on heavy land that should keep me occupied next week and stop me drilling until after next weekendView attachment 908351
If I’d got soil like that I don’t think I would worry when I planned to drill that!

Try planning on opencast clay!! Earlier the better or can’t pay the rent
