BUZZARDS

I think the buzzard population has declined here as the number of kites has increased.

we do get stone curlews but the little ones don’t stand a chance

Yes you remind me now.

Last year mowing & watching curlew chick, buzzard swept in & killed it, then two crows scared the buzzard off. I got off the tractor & picked up the dead curlew chick seemed such a waste. Curlews pretty good at eating lapwing chicks though.

We have hares like some have rabbits though, hard to say but I'd would have thought one hare for every two acres.

And no midnight lampers?

5 buzzards over field yesterday, saw one lift a rat. Havent seen any lift hares or rabbits
Have seen one lift a Leveret and an ill pigeon, in recent weeks. Neither dead :( talking of which there are an awful lot of I'll pigeons about someone said they may be drunk on green grains.

Certainly wouldn’t say we are overrun with Buzzards, but plagued with Bloody magpies, grey backed crows and jackdaws.

Seen a magpie jumping at something whilst I was raking couple of days ago, it flew off as I approached, took a look, it was trying to eat a frog!

Saw one a couple of days ago go for something in my rape stubbles. All he flew off with was a beak full of green. Perhaps he was a veggie buzzard :ROFLMAO:

It annoys me intensely seeing buzzards pick up leverets which must be the most beautiful animal.ive even seen rooks or crows attack and kill one this year that I could not get too fast enough.i also pick up field mice when ploughing and take them to the field margins fir safety.seen far too many eaten by seagulls aswell.

Buzzards and Marsh Harriers in abundance here too. Wish they were big enough to take out some of the Chinese Water Deer that are breeding prolifically. Was ploughing marshes a couple of nights ago and counted 12 on an eighteen acre Marsh, that was just the ones I could see, I am sure there were others. Need to eat more venison come December and January.

Red kites are appearing regularly over the city and there are plenty of buzzards.
Even seen kites as far "North" as @Woodlander `s patch.
I guess they just keep looking for new territory and with no apex predator to keep the numbers down it gets crowded.

Kites dont seem to do the damage to the wildlife like buzzards do, mainly scavengers, from what I have observed. Very graceful in flight also, like seeing them about. If they push the buzzards out all the better but I would have thought it the other way around.
