I have an MB1000 that won’t stay in high range, jumps out, the splitter doesn’t work either.
Is there someone who can repair / overhaul them ?
Thanks.

I am working my way through the same box very slowly. It will cost 8k in parts when finished. The high ratio synchro is an absolute bitch to get out and is a hole in 2 grand, one half of the synchro is £1200 odd alone! The small tracs are a big job to dismantle so I would try and get as far through the job as possible with your or pals time. Once the box is out, get someone good to strip it or send the box to One of the specialists. Arthur ibbetts might be the most cost effective. South cave are helpful too. Or that Agri transmission place that advertise. The hi/lo splitter is not grinding I assume? It’s mega money if worn. You probably have an air fault with change switch/ clutch peddle valve/ shift ram. Is it building full pressure in both tanks?

How much is it worth?

Is it worth spending 8k on parts plus labour to repair?

Prob worth about 12k when repaired and it cost 6 with the damaged box. But I am fitting a 140hp van engine when it goes back together so it should be pretty useful! The old 85hp engine is pretty feeble.

What model is 85hp? I had a 900 turbo. It had a stretched chassis and sprayer on it.

Always had to go from reverse to select High. Wouldn't go into high from neutral without grinding gears.

Same gearbox problem as mine then. Plus my reverse is jumping out and splitter synchros are shot.. the pre 364 engine 900 are 85hp, mine are A reg. later 900’s with the 364 are 90 hp.

Another vote for south cave there good lads. My MB has started jumping out of 3rd which is a standard problem but will be fixed when the new engine goes in.
What engine are you fitting? I paid £100 for a complete van with the later 364 engine. Low mileage too. Then got crucified with the gearbox.

OM 366 6 cylinder as its a MB TRAC 1000. Would not have to do it if a well known MB workshop had botherd to tighten up the sump plug when they fitted a clutch.

Yea of course.. I got distracted with 900’s. So the worlds biggest breaker of Unimogs won’t admit to the damage? They could have given you a s/h engine.. are you rebuilding the original block or have you found another 366?

I’ve seen some scary asking prices ( asking and getting different I know) for MB tracs, what’s a 84 1000 with sub 9 k hrs worth, with a functional gearbox.....
V straight and tidy....only ever been spraying.

Our neighbours went to Holland. Advertise it somewhere like Mascus where it will get widespread coverage. Said he had a lot of interest from abroad. No idea how much he got for it.

Had this problem on my 1000, quite a big job.
You need to take off cab, take out engine, take off front axle, remove gearbox, remove the splitter unit on the front, the pto into on the side, the shifter unit on top, remove a few more bits and bobs to get to a shaft in the front of the gearbox. If it’s jumping out of hi range, the synchro ring/baulk ring is probably broken. If your lucky the shaft and synchro hub will be ok but if it got any grating it probably won’t. More than likely you will need to replace the shaft, baulk ring, spring and synchro hub. Just did this myself recently, did all the work myself, parts cost €1300 (not too bad for working on an mb trac!). If you have any questions, drop me a line I’ll be more than happy to help!

Hi jamie, tell you the truth I don’t know much abt the forwards/reverse as it’s unrealated to the hi/low but from momery I thinks ins near the bottom of the box near where the pto output is. Sounds to be the same problem only in a different place. regardless the box with still have to be taken out once it’s out, it’s easy enough to find where the problem is by taking the top off and going through the gears by hand. Sounds to be the synchro ring aswell
