Knackered T7 gearbox

One of the T7 260 has suddenly, whilst ploughing lost drive in all but the very lowest gears. It works hard in 12th and 13th gear and to me it sounds like the clutch packs have gone - although I have not actually seen it. The error code I am told is 2385.

What are my options? Are these boxes rebuildable by the local dealer, or is it an exchange unit job ? I bet not cheap either way !

We have a t8050 with a knackered sump gasket ( supposedly fixed by a main stealer in the midlands !!!!! ffs ) and have been recommended to use Swinnerton machinery - chap called Tom was a great help and knew the problem i was describing . They fix boxes engines etc.

Just stop!

We were warned ours would fail and it did. If you keep using it will weld itself together and cost much more to fix.

Think it was low range went in ours. Did all 3 when they had it stripped down. Ours had done 5.5k hours. Was 6.5k to fix if I remember correctly. That was new Holland dealer. Several years ago.

@PSQ Had a much worse outcome.

2385 - Inconsistent ratio of transmission output speed and engine speed

I would always calibrate the gearbox first and see what it comes up with, but there's a good chance the medium pack is slipping. The gearboxes can be rebuilt, generally its medium and reverse packs that go as these are the ones you always pull away in so take the most slipping, how many hours has it done? No other problems with it recently?

The chaps have had a go at a recalibration and it is still the same. It has done about 4200hrs mostly hard pulling

That's pretty low hours for the packs to go but not unheard of, did it calibrate ok? You can roughly tell how worn a pack is by the figures during calibration, the higher the numbers the more worn out it is.

@copse .should be inde mechanics be fit to fix it as its a known problem so ther will be mechanics that have done this job b4

Approx £6k job for mid range clutch pack?!
Bus as above...park her up, it’s 40 odd hours plus parts... just depends how far it’s damaged....regard to above on the hours...not uncommon at those hours being worked hard...has it been tuned at all?

State of the nation. I'm afraid, the amount that they are paid why can't the driver press a clutch (£300), (and steer the bloody thing), world's gone mad!

It may be more expensive but probably wont have its tranny in bits at 4000 hours

Get autopowr one. Won't ever look back and it's as much to repair a CVT as a full powershift these days anyway.

Can you pay for the operation to have the poor sod's hip replaced when he is 55 or is that another wearing part and considered fair wear and tear?

I don't think you can beat a modern tractor with all the controls on the arm rest if you are in the thing all day for weeks on end. Makes the job a doddle.

I have done nothing like the time a lot of you guys have in semi-powershift machines or even crunch boxers but fudge that, I have no desire to repeat the experience. Modern CVT machine with electric linkage and spools makes the job a piece of pish and you get out of the machine feeling as fresh as when you got in it. Complete no-brainer to me.

Each to thier own but i like the plainer cheaper option as i dont like big loan payments

I've pressed clutch pedals all my life, and now in my sixties, probably no worse than the youngsters pissing about in gyms wearing their bodies out.

Thiinking now, after a proper diagnosis to just part ex the box for a re manufactured one. Definitely quicker.
Not had much luck with the bigger T7s drivetrains tbh seems they are all flimsy

With the Yank built Deeres. No problems

Sorry to hear that ,if it makes you feel any better we have a Magnum powershift around 1800 hours transmission started losing pressure ended up with a new transmission, dealer said it could just be a o ring leaking Case coughed up some but the farm paid the most

We've had 2 gearboxes need major surgery over the years, one at 1700 hrs and one at 4500 both were in deeres
