We had a 2010 agribuggy and was very good apart from a very unfortunate issue where it broke the key in the end of the camshaft seemingly this is a very rare occurrence in land rover engines but dies happen .

It had a full engine re build it's away now as it was due for a change anyway.

They're fairly simple bits of kit nice and light and they're good on steep land far better than the replacement we have now .

Avoid the older 3-4D buggies as their engines weren't man enough for the job. Asking a 1.6 litre NA diesel to move that kind of weight around when it would barely shove a mk2 Escort down a tarmac road was never going to end well. The later Land Rover engined models are better and last longer. Great lightweight vehicles though (y)

So last decade, you need something with 300 HP and weighing 18Tonnes loaded now.
not me we are currently dragging a trailed sprayer around but due to the weather and swamp-like conditions we thought a low ground pressure jobby might be the way forward as we could not get on at all last winter

How old are you looking at? I have a 1999 Agribuggy, so one of the last ones made. It’s come here to retire on my little acreage, and pretty well done depreciating.
Given it’s age, it obviously has a few more niggly things go wrong with it (throttle cable snapped a couple of months ago for example), but nothing disastrous so far.

The more modern Kellands Agribuggy is obviously a very different machine though, as is the price.

5D has a turbo 1.8 (90hp) but still is marginal on power when on row crops

Get the right tyres on the sprayer and it will be the tractor that makes the most marks.

Would better gearing help? The last Stealth I drove had a 5 speed box, that's all. One gear too short and the next one too long.

Trouble is , its a RS turbo close ratio box, where 1st is quite low, big jump to second, then 2nd to 3rd & 3rd to 4th are all close together. Once you get the hang of keeping the turbo properly lit, they're not bad.

Willmot Lightspray? Never tried one but they look light.

The problem I find generally is that once I am light enough to avoid sinking in, I don't have enough traction to get up slopes or out of corners once I have backed in. Its a fine balance.

Our old Chaviot wasnt bad. Two big blokes could push it out of a wet hole, which is more than can be said for the Hi Lo.

what is an RB 15/65?
It’s a 4 cylinder Bateman, RB15 It’s the predecessor to the Hi Lo, there two newer models RB16 and and RB17.

I have an RB15, as @neilo says they are a hydro machine and wheel motors can fail, however mine is on its original motors and 9k hours (probably jinxed myself now 😂). Bateman may be out your budget though as they do tend to demand a premium for some reason.

I run 520 tyres at 16psi and always manage to travel, haven’t been stuck other than with the row crops on some of our very soft ground.
