Idiots guide to Ez steer

Looking at getting an Ez steer wheel motor to go with our Trimble 250 with a ag15 antenna we have just got.
How accurate would this system be with an Ez steer, i assume i would need tilt compensation but looking on line most seem to be fitted in the cab, does cab suspension affect them by making them inaccurate?
Is the ag 25 antenna more accurate on a free signal?
How much more accurate is a paid for corrected signal and how expensive are they
Does anyone have a Ez steer kit they are looking to sell

@SilliamWhale i seem to remember you getting auto steer a couple of years ago, what system do you use

@fermerboy i think in some of your posts you talk of having an Ez steer, how do you find it and do you pay for corrected signal

It will be as accurate as the correction signal you are using, so 15cm pass to pass on Egnos.
EZ-steer has roll and yaw compensation, as long as the controller is mounted as low as possible (on the floor ideally)cab suspension shouldn't cause any issues.
AG 25 won't improve accuracy on a free signal.
Generally speaking the more the correction signal costs, the more accurate it is but the EZ-guide 250 can't be upgraded above Egnos anyway.

I have a NH XCN1050 (Trimble 750) with NAV 900 antenna and EZ pilot Pro steering column motor, so a bit more advanced than what you are looking at, but of course more£££ Its very good, I pay £295/yr for Rangepoint RTX signal.
I have a Trimble 250 with AG15 that is used as a lightbar, so no experience of EZ Steer. That said I would think a EZ steer motor on Egnos would be grand for all work except cereal sowing

FM-750 is a better bit of kit than it’s 250 and 500 predecessors, and upgradable to Rangepoint RTX.
We have sown with a 500 and EZ-Steer on Egnos, it’s accurate enough, but tends to move from its line over night or even over lunch, and needs a disc mark left before you stop at night to start on in the morning.

This is what I have.
Running it on a Massey 7718. It works very well. I got mine with a Severn Trent grant and included range point on a 5 year bundle and the section control unlock.

It can be swapped over, but swapping wiring over and altering settings and calibrations is a bit of a faff. When you’ve used it for a season you’ll decide to buy a 2nd set up.
It’s not easy to justify the investment until you step off a tractor at midnight feeling fresh as a daisy, then you’ll ask yourself why you didn’t buy them years ago.

A harness in each tractor and saved configurations, easy peasey lemon squeezy.

Used an EZ Steer in the past with Cfx750 on rtk for drilling, worked very well, but won't drive onto the ab line like autosteer. Also, you have to be moving before it will pick up the line.
As above, put a loom in each tractor, takes minutes to swap T2 and motor. Still use EZ Steer and that Cfx/rtk setup in the combine, runs happily up to 8kmh with 10cm tolerance either side of the header (6m swaths for a 6.2m cutterbar).
One othet thing, they can be noisy!

I really get confused by all this. Was looking at trimble models today but I'm non the wiser. Couldn't work out which of their models needed or didnt need a subscription. Which one I would need to be accurate enough for drilling and possibly spraying? We tried something 5+ years ago on demo that was around a grand but it was dreadful so gave up. What would I need to spend and get that is reasonably basic but accurate enough? Any advice much appreciated.

Spraying doesn’t need to be any more accurate than egnos (free signal) as the nozzles are 50cm apart (25cm on some new sprayers) so will achieve full coverage.
We drill on rangepoint which is 12-15cm with correction for contour etc. The 3m drill is set on 2.98m and seems to match up fine.
A neighbour drills on standard egnos (free signal) he sets his 3m drill to 2.97m and has been happy with it for last 3 years.
My advice would be to try rangepoint, and if you are not happy then upgrade to centre point or have a word with a friendly neighbour about renting their RTK signal (although you may incur extra expense to do this).
