A gravel bike would probably be alright although it depends whether you see any mud at all or not, a hybrid bike maybe better as it will be more comfortable as you wont have the handlebar's so low down which may make longer rides more comfortable. Carbon is good and light and will withstand most impacts but make sure you don't cheap out on carbon frames as they will snap very easily. Aluminium and steel is cheaper so will get you better quality parts on the bike. On the 1x and 2x topic a 1x will make shifting easier especially if you look at something with a large cassette like a 11x or a 12x and will be easier to maintain than a 2x as well as lighter if weight is important. Building your own bike may also be a good idea if you have the skills as the parts will be cheaper than pre built and you can make the bike to your spec. All that said i have always ridden mountain bikes so don't know it all about gravel and hybrid bikes
I have an aluminium Rose cyclo cross bike it is beautifully balanced and by far my favourite bike. I have a full suspension MTB and a carbon road bike, Specialized Roubaix though so quite good on the rough stuff.

Brought a Qubo fluid smart trainer recently but can’t get it to link to zwift. No cables to plug it in and if I start peddling it doesn’t ‘wake up’ sensors as far as I can tell.

Also won’t link to the e-training app it comes with. What am I missing?...

I have a elite (not fluid). I’m thinking a connection issue to whatever you are running Zwift on. I use Bluetooth to an iPad, what are you using?

help needed , I currently ride giant cypress, an old sit up and beg thing. I want to upgrade, but what to ? I do back road riding, dont do main roads ,odd bit of off road tracks maybe 85_90% road rest off., (it's flat where I am ,ignore avatar)
Ride varying lengths but often 30 miles, 45 miles some weeks do 40 miles others 100.
Ride purely for pleasure /fitness.
Not sure what to get. But not an out and out road bike, no need for a mountain bike.
But another hybrid ? Or one of these gravel type.
Then flat bar or drops? not sure I want, need, arse up head down.
Steel ,carbon , aluminium frame ??
Is carbon worth it , steel too heavy ??
Ive no idea. .
Budget £1500 to £2000 for right bike . Hiking and biking is my thing, so thought it time I treated myself ,to a decent new bike,.
Comfort is important, my bike weighs 14.5kg, what's a good sensible weight to aim for ,the bike not me . As you can see I've no idea what to do .
1x or 2x gears , is 1x too big a gap after what I'm used to.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have accumulated a few bikes over the year as there were some good deals about but not so much now. For what its worth I think a decent carbon(or titanitum) gravel bike with hydraulic disc brakes and ideally shimano grx shifting (or sram) and about 40mm tyres will cover an awful lot of bases.

You can do any amount of road biking, gravel or off road track riding and most of the blue and some red trails at mountain bike centres with that spec without a problem. Covers a lot of bases. I'd have a good think about one of the planet x gravel bikes (https://www.planetx.co.uk/c/q/bikes/gravel-adventure-bikes) or potentially this:

or the cheaper aluminium one, great value

.

I know it sounds a bit excessive but I have a few bikes and I haven't found it hard to justify any of them as I use them and they're good fun.

Road riding is a Cannondale Supersix with rim brakes. Light and fast. I don't mind rim brakes on this as mainly its a summer dry weather bike. Also less fashionable on rims at moment so you can pick up the odd bargain.

Winter/ Gravel bike/ Adventure days out is a Pinnacle Arkrose D3 - aluminium bike so a bit heavier but better brakes. Good for all day out - rather than blasts but nice and safe in winter.

Mountain biking - never really done much of this but only recently started over the last year going to a few centres. Don't really have the skills to do black runs anyway so I use this:

Slightly heavy but beyond that the spec is good for the price and the amount of times I use it (5 or 6 times a year).

All these bikes are worth the same as what paid for less £100 max so its not a waste of money compared to some of the cheapy carrera stuff.

@SJM just remembered having app issues when I first had my trainer. Have a feeling I uninstalled the elite app and only used Zwift. It’s a couple of years ago so not quite sure the problem

It seems the ‘smart’ turbo I brought will only work as a smart trainer if you buy a additional sensor... Hopefully that will do the trick. Thanks

Planned to get out after lunch today . Had the last 25ac to drill this morning. Silly problems costing me time so not convinced I’ll make it. Not feeling it for Zwift at the moment

The Wahoo is on charge :)

I’m back asking for help again  :ROFLMAO:

tacx flux s has arrived! And it’s been a disaster from start to finish :banghead: broke my big toe and split my toe nail in half so currently can’t put any weight on my foot in order to cycle  on week 3 of steroids in order to breath like an asthmatic normal person  so today thinking I’d feel happier if we got it all set up in anticipation of a day I can actually use it  they sent an eu adaptor and not a uk one :banghead: all fine I’ll just Amazon prime it as there’s no imminent rush 💁‍♀️ now to the installation and it seems instructions are made by crazy people :wideyed: I’ve watched a few YouTube videos but they seem to skip through the parts I’m stuck on without giving much detail!
From what I can understand, as it’s an 11 speed I do not need the spacer? Then do I need a special tool to tighten it? Or can I go rogue with something at home? There’s lots of different size black caps provided, what are these for? The guy in the video chucked them? Does anyone have a dummies guide on how to set the bloody thing up :X3::dead::shy:

Sorry I have not been about much lost my enthusiasm for cycling thanks to a busy month at work.

You don't need a spacer ring for 11 speed cassette but you do ideally need the special tool to tighten the fixing nut. If your still not set up let me know and I will find a link to tool and a YouTube set up video.

Oh and if your struggling with something feel free to drop me a pm to remind me to look in here!
