Main Farm Insurers are NFU, Axa, NIG Farmweb, Zurich, Cornish Mutual,Amlin,Aviva,IFARM plus one or 2 others. They all have good and bad points.
The most important point is that the person arranging your Insurance fully understands your business and farm Insurance. If the cover is arranged correctly in the first place it should pay out when there is a claim BUT the Broker/Agent arranging that Insurance needs to stand up and be counted when that claim comes along- it should not be passed to a call centre. As Brokers we take your money so we should have an obligation to sort the claim out- too many take the attitude, thats not my job.
@flyonthewall makes good comment about policy terms and condition. I believe that is our job as Brokers to fully explain the relevant ones to you. You will lose the will to live if you try and read them all!
On a daily basis we see N** knocking 10-50% off premiums to match quotes we have done. Very annoying but I have seen them do it for last 25 years since I quit working for them. It is never good for 1 company to have 65-70% of a market.
I have a friend who works in one of the above named companies and they say they struggle to beat the NFU in the majority of quotes. It does always vary between Agents as well.

That's only your experience, premiums are based on various factors, maybe your were a difficult customer? Perhaps the saw you as a high risk of a claim?
In my case they were better than the 2 other quotes. By a significant difference! NFU came in cheaper than previous year and the two other were higher that what I had been paying the previous year. This could have been due to our claim history being very small therefore reducing risk.

Just because something isn't suitable for you doesn't mean other shouldn't give them a try. Insurance is a risk based.

yes just my experience but that change has saved me well over £125,000 in the 5 years since...... the cost of a flash new EV ! on just one supplier change decision.......... imagine your broker turning up with a new Porsche as a loyalty bonus every 5 years !

our claim record is pretty low really, nothing extraordinary given the amount of stuff we have covered

They tried hard to get us to stay , reducing premium significantly once they knew we had alternative quote ........ they were trying it on and had got away with the loyalty of my grand father and father for decades beforehand ....... that does leave a bitter taste i admit !

Isn't that what business is about? Getting someone to pay as much as possible for a product?
Insurance is just a product.
Of course within that comes convenience and ease of claiming.
We all know how stressful an insurance claim can be.

Interesting Compare the Market, supposedly there to save the consumer money, has been fined £18 million for fixing contracts so customers couldn't get a better deal anywhere else !

Now that is ripping the customer off 100%!

Too right, you over paying probably saved me and others £1000's over the previous 5 years !

Of course your new suppliers maybe subsiding you to get your business as a "big "name for marketing purposes.....short term. Time will tell.

my new supplier was F&M for 3 years who I was very happy with, i don’t think they used me in any publicity? - when Acres quoted less last yesrs we moved again, they also haven’t used me in any publicty or have any permission to do so

i’m not planning on switching every year, it’s not good for quotes i’m told, but shopping about every 3 years or so does seem a good idea from experience now
