I told the buyer up here that you lads down south were getting £4.10 .said it was the first they knew of it.....I smell [emoji90] [emoji90]

I'll check when remittance comes. That's what my boss was told and he told him you better come fetch some then.

Re: the Telford firm and lack of payment of Angus premium. Either it's a massive coincidence as the said load of cattle went 7 weeks ago or they're reading on here but had a phone call here this afternoon saying payment would be in the bank and apologizing for forgetting about it. 👍

Clean Cattle (199) – More forward this week with a lot of weight available to the regular parliament of buyers, trade slightly easier however still good with continental heifers averaging 228ppk and the continental steers 215ppk. A host of beast today the right side of 240ppk and as far as gross values we witnessed £1600 on numerous occasions and £1700 twice. Top gross value was a wonderful home bred British Blonde heifer from J & J H Musgrave of Pawton Hill, Elwick selling for £1713, she was closely followed by the days top grossing steer (£1706) which came from N Hetherington & Son, Viewley Hill, Great Stainton who was making a welcome vendors return to the Darlington live ring. Raiders from the North again left with the bragging rights this week as Messrs Renton of High Highlaws, Morpeth deservedly took the top price per kilo with a terrific 558kg home bred Limousin heifer selling for 258 pence per kilo; an exceptional 15 from this good home sold to average 239ppk and £1423. Top priced steer per kilo was another of our valued Northumberland consignors, the past few weeks the cattle from the North have certainly proved hard to beat, W J Scott Ltd, Low Leam produced a typically thick meat and classy 655kg steer which sold for 242ppk. Top runs of heifers from regular local producer’s the Hirst’s of Neasham Grange (6 average 242ppk) and the Hodgson’s of Summerhouse (12 average 241ppk) were well worthy of mention for these two most consistent of producers. We were pleased to see some tremendous heavy weight steers shown today as the live ring remains the place to be, great runs from C Moralee & Sons, Langley Park (average £1660) and M J & E A Sedgewick, Durham (average £1570) will no doubt have the deadweight firms sharpening their pencil’s; no weight restrictions, age penalties or waiting lists in the live ring, all are more than welcome.

Prime Lambs (1896) – The lamb trade lifts again, this week’s average of £91.76 or 205ppk with an SQQ of 216ppk was very pleasing as a fair proportion of Mule’s and Hill bred lambs were in attendance. Top price per kilo came from High Harbour Farms as a sensational pen of 7 Beltex weighing 45kg sold to Roots Farm Shop for 261ppk and £117.50 per head. Leading the gross values was a single superstar of a 52kg Texel from A & D Proctor, Swarland Old Hall selling for £128 to Hartshead Meats. As we have seen lately, more than enough weight from many of the vendors is now making the smaller lambs much sought after, neither we, nor our customers can make the lambs lighter at this stage of the game. Mule lambs this week to a top of £98.50 from the Tindale’s of Paradise Farm as the transparency we continue to show at DFAM brought forward a healthy show of almost 1900, good for the time of year.

Cast Ewes & Rams (732) – Much dearer again, is the Christmas lift coming early? This week Mule’s sold beyond £90 for the first time in a while with Blackie’s beyond £70 and Swaledale’s over £60. Top price were a pair of superb Texel’s from C S & V Whitfield, High Castledene which sold for £130, an outstanding pen of 31 from this home averaged over £102 with the whole show today averaging £75.
