Horsch sprinter keeps blocking

Hi

Today we tried our Sprinter for the first time, DD into spring oats. We cut the straw as high as possible when combining to minimize the residue issue.

With original duetts it works the soil alot and drags up the straw with soil, and then blocks.

Any ideas what todo?

Another issue with the machine. While seeding it suddenly stops seeding and thinks its been raised out of ground.

Too much straw .
And drilling in the same direction as the combine, where drilling at an angle might let the straw clear itself. But you’d really need to bale the oat straw to run ‘clean’ as it’s always going to be a huge volume with varying shades of green.

Are you on 175mm or 200mm base plates?
Are the tine harrows dragging the straw into piles (set too aggressively, running near vertical) ?

I dont have the machine here, but I think is 200mm base plates. The tine harrows are set to be out of the ground.

This year we had a lot of late tillers, so there is a lot of green straw. Not the optimal situation. We are now running a straw chopper to see if it helps.

Wonder if other openers would make any difference though?

Once you have lowered the machine into work you need to put the spool into float otherwise a slight bump will cause the seed meter to stop. Mow the straw with a flail mower and drill at a different angle to the combine and mower.

Great tip regarding the spool. Will try that. We are already on the mower :)

I would chop the straw and fit Borgault VOS openers which will improve clearance no end.Drill at an angle and back off the harrows a little.

Because it works and is simpler. Push spool one notch forward to pressure the marker arm out, then let go and it springs to neutral.

Floating would mean pushing forward again, where it sticks in the intent and either leaving it there or carefully pulling back to neutral.

Ok, understand now. Much easier to potentially miss a bit, lift up mid run turn in the middle of the field and drop back in again.
