Today’s Disaster

Long drill bit working around the edge of it / Drill it / loosen it out ?

I've a good load of big round walnut cheeses from my parent's house after they felled the one in their garden that became very overgrown. They are seasoned and dry as the old man intended to use them for wood turning. I've split a good few of them up before but this piece is obviously from the top of the trunk where the branches were sent out so it's a mass of limbs in all directions. Of course I put the wedge right dead centre in the middle of the bleeding thing and I only have this wood grenade spitting thing I bought cheap from somewhere. My backup plan is a big cold chisel which I used to take to work in my tool box as it was perfect for smashing flints out of a cultivator or something.

Near disaster yesterday, Driving out the village, off for a family walk. Dabbed the brakes, poor braking and pedal to the floor.
pumped brakes, same story, got out to find oil dripping near rear wheel. Hand braked it back home and spent the afternoon flaring some new copper pips and fitting them. Mot was on the 17th and no advisories and no word of corroision :bored:

Not a disaster, more a strange incident. Hauling big bales up a hill down to around 25k then sped up with overtaking possible 400 yards on. Car had come up behind so slowed up, left indicator and a black Merc passed me, then braked and made me stop. Thought it was maybe unmarked cops then after 30 seconds it drove off.
Ive had that before was on an empty tractor so slowed down and managed to pass them on accelerating dont think they were to happy about having to pass again

I had that recently from a twit in a BMW who was p!ssed off at being slowed down to the speed limit for a few seconds. I was overtaking a lorry on a 70mph dual carriageway and he came blasting up behind me, pulled in front of me once past the lorry and braked to make me and the lorry stop, then he sped off. Bloody dangerous behaviour and he sooner he writes himself off on a roadside tree the better for the rest of us.

Mrs been pestering me to put a cat flap in the porch door for the farm cats so they can come in to have a warm, my head said to take door off, but instructions said you can fit without door coming off. Decided to leave door on, measured around and drilled 4 holes in each corner for jigsaw. Door is plastic, so how in the hell do you break a milwaukie 8mm drill bit drilling the 4 holes.

I love the tools but the impact bits and accessories have been shockingly bad. I get more holes drilled with a cheap hss bit

Mrs Fred wanted the facias and gutters replaces round the stables, so spent the weekend doing it, had the usual farm bucket filled with 2 billion screws, nails, rawlplugs, etc which I hastily dumped on the front seat of the Disco in the dark to come home. "Want a cup of tea before we go?" says she. 'I'll get my mug out of the Disco....' So the bucket fell out as I opened the door and scattered all the contents in the crud. :( Have to go back with the C Scope to make sure we found them all.

I had a strange happening the other evening when I went to check the sheep. We're on a busy A Road with a big roundabout/flyover at the bottom end where the A31 goes past. I could see a vehicle in the mirror, and thought it looked just like an early Range Rover, from the arrangement of small round headlights and sidelights, and it came right up behind me as I got to the roundabout. I stayed in the left lane as it was pulling to the right, so I thought I'd see if I was correct about the Range Rover when it came up alongside. I sat there for a few moments but nothing came past. When I looked in the mirror the road was empty and there was nowhere it could have gone as our fields are alongside with a steep bank and ditch. I even went round the roundabout and back up the road to see if anyone was in trouble but not a sausage. Everyone thinks I'm going nuts! :)

Strange stuff happens...

I was going to a neighbour's place a few weeks ago... he is down a lane with no exit other than to his farm, the lane is about 3/4 mile long, no turn offs or gateways other than to his fields, it is almost entirely banked on both sides, one place with a ditch by a culvert and has only one very long bend in it, it has a pretty steady but shallow uphill gradient. I was heading over there about an hour or so before school pick up time, so about 1430hrs.

I was about a third of the way along the lane when I looked in my rear-view mirror and saw a red van behind me, lights on, maybe two hundred yards away and going pretty quickly. I assumed it was the post and carried on, as I went into the start of the bend it was still visible. I got to his yard and he was waiting for me as arranged, I said hello and mentioned the post was coming and he said it had already been a little while ago. Now, from his yard the start of the lane and the first and last few hundred yards can be seen, but there was no sign of the post-van, so we waited a couple of minutes - nothing.

Not wanting to get stuck with the van on our way out, he jumped on his quad and drove down to see if it had broken down or gone off the lane, soon I could see him at the start of the lane, where he turned and came back. He'd seen nothing and reckoned I was imagining it.

But I bl**dy well wasn't! Turns out the postie had stopped for a pee in a gateway earlier, and soon after noticed his 'phone was gone. He had come down the lane, found the 'phone and then reversed - at what must have been one hell of a whack - back to the junction and then carried on with his round.

So there it is, evidence that I am not a loony. :smug:

Anyone else have a ‘today’s disaster’
Post away share your trials 🤣🙈🙈😁

Hmm, well; Saturday morning I was continuing with the replacement of the whole heating / pipework system in our house, rushing around coz everyone was letting me know it was cold - whereby I dropped a googlie shall we say....... I asked my wife to keep topping up the system whilst I was bleeding it through, to which I said to her "can you hear something dripping" which is not something one wants to hear when doing any plumbing

Looked in the Kitchen at the ceiling and had an "Oh Fu** moment", shot upstairs and found I had ommitted to solder a joint... I have never had that happen before, so put it down to experience, but fortunately no serious damage. House is nice a toastie now too 😁

Had the same here mot in middle of October and burst a front brake pipe last week, and the rears look to be made solely of rust
