National grid alert

These warnings are being issued more and more frequently, not so long ago they where almost unheard of.

I can see the generator business being a good bet in years to come:unsure:

This shows the stupidity of relying on solar and wind. Highest demand will be on a cold and still evening when these sources are useless. Quite happy to import electricity from France with no questions about how it is produced. A bit like not caring how imported food is produced.

There must be hundrededs of small gas driven generators on industrial estates and in the corners of car parks to make up the shortfall but they can't be as efficient as a full size power station?

Next with smart meters will be the ability to charge us more for using it at peak times such as, er, cold winter evenings....

Fret ye not, that smart meter you were forced to have will enable variable charging so you can be charged higher rates at times of shortage...oh what am I saying, I really mean that eventually suppliers will be able to offer different tariffs for you, offering a far greater level of flexibility than you currently receive.

You unplugged the meter, or just your little connected box to show you what is happening? The actual meters don't use the phone network any more - we have a mast nearby that they can talk to, on a completely different network system.
