There is no way a single disc style planter ( 750 / Avatar etc etc ) would work at the moment ( I know because I’ve also been using them for years as well ) as the soil is just so soft & fluffy & sticky ( alluvial clay ). A tyne would just make a hell of a mess, & in our summer the plant row would then dry out like a brick. Absolute minimal disturbance is what we’re aiming for in these conditions

Kicking up dust from the surface, but as soft & wet as, under the crust
@Farmer Roy , what does the end product of the mung bean become?
Excuse my total ignorance, I’ve never heard of a mung bean ?
And I’m delighted that you guys have got some moisture again ! (y)

Have you ever seen bean sprouts ? Used a lot in Asian salads. The top grade mung seeds are sprouted, for the fresh vegetable market. Just like veggies, those dry seeds are judged on visual appearance.
Mung beans are used a lot in Asian cuisine.
The next grade down from sprouting are generally canned, a bit like canned chickpeas or beans.
Ones that don’t make that grade end up as dahl, a kind of generic legume flour.
But yes, the end use is all human consumption, mainly into Asian export markets.

Avadex - now there’s a chemical I haven’t heard of for 20 or 30 years. But we used the liquid product. From memory it needed incorporating into the soil fairly quickly ? , which is probably why it fell out of favour . . .
Are you thinking of Temick? I don’t think Avadex has ever needed incorporating? How’s the job on the other side of the world going??

haha - no, I know all about Temik, nasty evil stuff that thankfully we don’t use anymore. I’ve even got a certificate somewhere saying I’m approved to calibrate equipment & apply it & could probably find my bottle of atropine tablets if I looked hard enough 👍

nah, it was avadex I was thinking of, but as a liquid. Never seen granules.
It had to be incorporated to a depth of 2 - 4cm, within 6 hours on moist soil or 24 hours on dry soil, for maximum effectiveness. The labels even recommend 2 passes for incorporation. No wonder we don’t use it anymore here, although in other cropping areas with light soils apparently it is still used, but relying on the soil throw from planting tynes to incorporate it

Our granules and latest liquid formulation don’t need incorporating.

ahh, but diffferent environment AND different legislation / approval organisations / jurisdictions as well.

The link above I posted is the current label for Avadex Extra, which is the latest / current formulation here. As I said, I’ve never personally used it & probs hasn’t been used much around here for at least 30 years

Even within Australia, what is approved in one State, may be “off label” in another.
