Everyone including myself have less....reason was ,firstly stores were what we all thought to dammed dear and secondly we all had a bit of Brexit fever....another reason is many sold a lot harder than normal....farming the lambs through the season with that in mind..hence we are where we are...with these high prices potential breeders will be killed...making their being less breeders around...all said and done...what the hell do i know

What price would you weigh in your female replacement sheep ?
Anything over £120 will see the back of my texel cross ewe lambs that are running on. Reasoning? I can keep more next back end. If there’s another drought I can buy shearlings ready grown for bugger all more.

Can’t see the trade being good enough to weigh in my Cheviot mule ewe lambs though... they averaged a bit too much too be selling at £150!!

150...Because with high hog and lambs prices you could see Quality 2 tooths nearing the 200 quid mark...higher the hog price.....the shorter the 2 tooths will be...Simples
Yes but
In 2018’we saw great prices for hoggs and couples and spring lambs then it got dry and dry and dry and everyone went from theaves will be 150-160 to 90-110
I think the sheep job will be good all spring but Mother Nature could cause it to go higher and by next autumn she can make it go lower as could a lot of things, just gotta be in it to win it

I think not being greedy has a lot too do with it doesn’t it? If you’re onto a good thing take it while it’s there. No guarantees it will stay for long! As you say we are all subject too Mother Nature and her peculiar sense of humour!

As far as the income tax goes that in itself is a good driver to keep sheep prices up. Money is often rolled over to avoid tax put back into stock. More importantly where it looks like borrowing limits might be pulled back often it’s reinvested for that reason too
I’ve got quite a list of improvements and replacements too make. Just awaiting funds! This could be the year we get them all done! 🤞🤞🤞😁

I won’t be looking too hard at the texels...pretty certain the lorry might be drawn up by the scanner too catch the barren ones 😉
My texel crosses wernt even tupped as their moving out of my commercial breeds.
62 ran dry to either sell if fat hits £6+/kg or sell as yearlings. Got some awkward fields I’ve taken on that won’t suit productive ewes but fine for empties 👍🏻

What are peoples thoughts on store cattle prices, do you think they are going to go up or not?

I don't know whether to stick or twist.
As a store cattle cattle buyer, I can't see stores getting much less until the fat job eases, yes there may be an occasional price drop in a store market somewhere due to weather, lambing or covid, but spring is getting closer every week now some smaller summering cattle, which some of them look half buyable now if you have silage and straw these cattle will get a bit dearer because they usually do as grass starts to grow.
Will they get dearer if fat keeps getting dearer???? who knows, it's all just a bigger gamble, just a bigger game we all play around the store ring every week!!!!!!
