Anyone who wants to see a picture on how not to transport round bales and especially very solid 5 ft bales on the public highway ( or indeed around a field/farm lane etc ) should take a look at the Devon and Cornwall facebook page... and read about the tragic outcome of doing the above to a cyclist.

@Henarar
All I inferred was that you can put two five foot bales on a trailer, I didn't say you should or that you should drive on the road with them

well, might catch a few out this year, using hay for bedding, very nice lady though, didn't have a clue about farming, except the charolais ? But very helpful in sorting out a few grey areas in the livery yard, if all inspections were like that, life would be easier, virtual red tractor tomorrow, had a visit 6 months ago, changed milk buyer, so new inspection !
Why do they need a new iunspection?

changed milk buyer, another company inspects them, for RT, 5 companies inspect for RT, you would think they would/could/should, talk to each other. Actually went very well, easiest one i have ever done, left it to son to do, all the records are (hopefully) are up to date. The sting in the tail, they are so behind on real visits, the thinking is, not the normal 15 months, might be 6, or even 3, to see cattle out at grass, (overtime ?)

Anyone who doesn’t like shocks please sit down because I have not one but TWO definite straw prices from this week. Inside stored 4” round bale winter barley straw delivered in today @£25.75/bale, up from previous loads @£20, at local mart (Northallerton) same statement but to collect yourself made £30/bale at auction so all in all I consider my leg lifted but not thoroughly rogered.

No. I buy squares by weight and rounds by the bale. I don’t use many rounds, only in some long narrow pens I have stirks in, they get a bale twice a week, the quality is more important than a few kilos either way. To be honest if they were super solid the extra straw would be wasted as there would too much for the pen. I also bought a heap of 100 first cut haylage, horse quality 120/90 by 5’6” for £30/bale to collect. Lovely smelling stuff, a lot better value for racks than straw imo
