Everything being so damp, all the time. It's 85+ humidity everyday. No wonder everything is so rotten all the time. Nothing ever dries. Soil, walls, houses. Yuuk.

A dehumidifier will be your friend, there ~ indoors at least. Taken gallons out of this agrihovel. When the mains water fails, it can even yield enough water for hot drinks and a cat lick for the family 👍

People who......WHAT?

People who refuse to....,,WHAT DID YOU SAY?

People who refuse to get their fecking hearing checked and as a result interrupt every fecking sentence with “what?” resulting in an initially pleasant exchange rapidly escalating into a heated shouting match.

........WHAT?
And try and make up some ridiculous sentence which bares no resemblance to what you said....do you want a cup of tea ?..... WHAT ? PASS ROY HATTERSLEY AN EIDERDOWN ?

People who mumble then accuse you of being deaf.

They last at least 10 years. Just a case of working out the size of unit needed given the size of house, and positioning it. Pennies/degree of comfort 👍
What makes/ models/ sizes do you use ? we've got 3 or 4 cheapish ( £150 ) ones, but they don't seem to last long, nor keep up in this sort of weather.

Upgraded to a Meaco Zambezi with the elephant on it last year after pennies finally dropped that taking its little same make predecessor upstairs and downstairs wasn't much fun. That one is now in the scullery place, valiantly keeping traditional Devon wet at bay in a small enough area for it. It's thought it's more than 10 years old, now. It's seldom switched off.

My parents struggled for years trying to keep this place from being damp, they had various "experts" give opinions.
We had a builder do some work who pointed out that the ground outside the house needs to be at least 6" below the floors inside. We dug the ground ( well, soil, broken flower pots, broken pottery etc. At some point the residents must have just been chucking the rubbish out of the windows) away, 2 foot in some places, amongst other things we found air bricks !
The house has been much drier since. That 6" just allows the brickwork to dry before the damp can creep in.

Repairs that snowball.
Spending the winter servicing and repairing. But where do you stop. Replace one leaking roof sheet but the purlin looks a bit dodgy. It’s just the result of aged infrastructure. You get to the point of thinking well really the whole roof needs replacing. Then you think well the floor needs redoing as well. Then you wonder if you’d be better selling the lot to a good lifer, buying a flat in Lincoln, investing the rest and spending the rest of your life researching local history or lecturing in applied bollox at Lincoln university.
