Is it really called "SODEM"
Throughput!
It keeps the plant running full chat. We are friends with a board member who has a lot of their own sheep, it's a double edged sword, keeps the plant full on but importing keeps the French price down. They had 9 Euros 20 a kilo for Christmas lambs.
You'd think.Well what your saying is French lamb could be dearer still if live exports
were stopped?
Surely that would make our chilled lamb carcasses more sought after.
I am not against live exports as long as to a humane slaughterhouse
but I'm interested if there is real economic benefits to it of not.
You'd think.
Never under estimate the French urge to " buy French"
What price uk lamb into the Christmas trade?
So with no export hassle upto Christmas, why do you think it wasn't it here?True they are highly patriotic but English lamb
was languishing at not much more than 5 euros a kilo DW at
the run up to Christmas.
So with no export hassle upto Christmas, why do you think it wasn't it here?
Shouldn't it have been dearer? If the big pub chains and certain parts of the catering industry
remained shut then there would probably be no need to export lambs
as people are buying higher quality food from the supermarkets and butchers.
Shouldn't it have been dearer?
My understanding is that all our abattoirs work to EU specification ,they had to upgrade to get to this spec. I have a friend who worked in abattoirs in Holland and France ,he readily acknowledges that they work to higher standards than this country.Well what your saying is French lamb could be dearer still if live exports from the UK
were stopped?

You could do it in the uk, but you'd have to co-operate with other farmers!

Subs mean they’re not necessary. Individual greed runs counter to the philosophy of the co op.Co ops, theyve never really thriven long term here, which is a great pity imo and begs the question why?

thats a bit harsh surely how aboutEU farmers receive the same subs that we have been getting, yet there are many successful co-ops operating there. Subs don’t prevent co-operation, greed does.
thats a bit harsh surely how about
poor policy/financial /business development direction? ie wrong people having too much influence taking them in the wrong direction ?
mind you in france there are a lot of rules to become a farmer (proper access to subs ) and you used to have to apply to local mayor to take on extra land , its a lot more industry inclusiveEU farmers receive the same subs that we have been getting, yet there are many successful co-ops operating there.
