TB frustrations.

Has anyone ever been TB free for 5 days only?

we had our 2nd clear skin test last week after being shut down for a year. (never had a TB problem before) now today had notification that a cull cow that went to slaughter yesterday had lesions....
so we're shut down again..

this almost 11year old cow has had 4 clear skin tests and I think 3 clear gamma tests since last February.

they're still deciding what to do next. until then we're back in lockdown.

we've lost 59 cattle in the last year, mostly milking cows and and were planning on re stocking in the coming weeks, and we'd 30 stores planned to go to market next week.

I know there's many people shut down longer and in worse positions, but I just wanted to vent frustration.

Has anyone else had the same happen? how did it turn out?

bugger. [emoji22] how did that end up?

I'm told technically we weren't clear at all because they only put the paperwork in the post yesterday. and they're not happy because we didn't apply for a movement licence for Tuesday. but that's their fault for being slow with paperwork, we did our bit on Friday afternoon.

Know of someone who was shut down for nearly a year due to an over zealous ministry vet insisting a bull with Pneumonia damage to his lungs was tb lesions. The bull had a bad bout of Pneumonia and was a poor doer. All the abbatoir staff said it was Pneumonia damage. The vet insisted it was tb and ended up culturing it twice, both times negative for tb. Pedigree beef herd so ended up fattening all the bulls and heifers they would have normally sold for breeding.

Sell barreners through orange Market and let someone else fatten them?

oooft, I hope we don't go back to that.

They tell you the gamma test will find everything, then they tell you after 2 clear skin tests you'll be good to go, then there's lesions found once you jump through all these hoops...

is TB a problem in your area? it isn't/ wasn't a problem here, yet they've not given us any answers to where ours cane from.

probably worrying that this was a good cow, good yielder all her life, only away because her legs weren't good.

yep its been bad for years in my area of Northern Irland you go clear for a while then it comes back cousin had a clear TB test in middle of November sent 13 bullocks to the abattoir 3 weeks later 5 down with TB every one knows the problem we are over run with Newcastle supporting furry critters

Nothing near as bad as the OP
But at reading on monday, one cow needed abit of extra time being measured, but the vet was satisfied it was clear, not a IR..... less then 24hrs later APHA say it is a IR 🤬🤦‍♂️

Contiguous test, because of some local cows going IR twice in a row.

Did they alter the test from standard to severe?

TBH the chart is very complicated

Neighbours just gone down with one cow, had stores to sell but thought he’d wait till the annual to save a few coins!! Now he’s welded to the feckers for at least 120 days at best!! We sell stores off the cows and always test what we’ve got to sell on its own an before the annual because it’s just to risky, you only need one an your up sh1t creek with out a paddle!!

Slaughterhouse cases are the worst for shutting you down. We have one middle of October. Was told we could buy in after the next test which needed to be done ASAP after the slaughter case. Applied for licence to be then told it has to be after a short interval test to be able to buy in. The first test after the slaughter case isn’t counted as a short interval test.
So we still aren’t allowed to buy cattle in wouldn’t matter but we usually buy a bunch of strong stores after Christmas. Test next week so will hopefully get the licence after that which will be nearly 4 months from being stopped moving on.

You get used to it! You learn to sell everything apart from the culls when you go clear, and then the culls go to factory. At least that way you’ve sold what you want to, or even bought what you need to. There’s always a risk with culls cos the test doesn’t pick everything up. This is from years of being shut and then open. Usually go down in the autumn and clear through the winter, almost like it comes from something in the fields!

No, everything else was fine and we're otherwise clear at the mo, I think the measure must have been close, the vet interpreted as clear, APHA as a IR

FYI

We were already under restrictions but our previous test had been clear. We had injected 2 animals with 1000+ still to go when I had a call from AHVA saying we had a slaughterhouse failure. I thought that was probably a record for the quickest failed tb test.
