I think the word too take away from that is “could”. In other words we aren’t making as much as we were and so we’re belly aching about it like mad. Give it another month, then we’ll see what’s going too happen
I dropped of lambs this week to kill and asked how the export was going and was told fine no probs everything was going through

Why’s it not good? The farmers supplying these meat processors have been making “virtually nothing” for there work since the 80s so fudge if they’re making virtually nothing it’s about time somebody else got a slippery stick up there arse for a change
I guess what I meant was and I might be wrong with my thinking and tell me if I am but if they are not making nothing will they not just hit the farmers price? Buy there lambs cheaper?
Has i agree with you in many ways, we still need them to make money and would I be right in thinking the more they can earn from them the more they want which would mean more pay us??

It is scarcity that is driving the trade at the moment. The retailer and the end consumer have to get used to this price and it has to be seen as the normal price for lamb to enable us the producer to make a decent margin.

Totally agree but they will always pay us has little has possible soon has more lambs come along down comes the price, if lamb numbers stay where they are then these prices might stay

You don't honestly think processors are making 30-40% margins do you? They will be getting squeezed by their customers constantly, and running on very tight margins, which is why they need massive throughput to keep running.
Yes, I don't think the processors are the enemy here (ABP aside, possibly). They need throughput which requires producers. It's their supermarket paymasters that are the problem here. Most couldn't give a toss where they get their stuff, as long as they can make a margin on it.

Prime Lambs
A fantastic show of lambs forward especially on a week where the trade has built a little bit of resistance, perhaps the Hoggs just got a little bit too dear too quick. However we are only comparing the trade on the past couple of weeks. On the year a very good trade, in previous years we’d of been over the moon with yesterdays trade. A per head average of £113.94.
Just a little thought, I can’t remember but a few of you maybe can, a wise man told me yesterday in the Hoggs season of 1992, 28 years ago, Hoggs were still making £100 per head.
Back to today and another good show of quality forward with a lot more of the renowned Thirsk weight coming forward. Top of the day was from Mr Ali Sutcliffe, you’ll have to spend pence per kilo this week Ali. And Jojo remaining top of the tree in pounds per head at £151.50.
Top Price Per KG – 332ppkg for Beltex X from AR Sutcliffe, Carlton In Cleveland purchased by Mr A Atkinson on behalf of R Agar, Ilkey.
