EU vaccine role out.

I read an article this morning say the ultra efficient EU are having problems making the AstraZeneca vaccine in their factories. Instead of fixing them they are saying the vaccine from UK factories, that are not having problems should be sent to them.
So Britain can do something right?
Perhaps time to tell the EU the vaccine is made and on the way but it seems to be having export issues because of customs hold ups?

Ha ha, yes! It was only 2 months ago that the EU were moaning that we had approved the vaccine too early and they would take extra time to evaluate it properly.

Now they’re moaning that we have priority and we shouldn’t expect first come first served!?
Even more important the Astra Zeneca CEO came out all guns blazing denying they were delaying anything

I'm no fan of the EU gents, but this isn't a laughing / gloating matter. There is no question that the EU have been slow on this, but without seeing the contracts it's impossible to say for sure who is in the right.

That written, it is a bit rich for the EU to, effectively, threaten to withhold vaccines produced over there in Europe while at the same time demanding immediate supply of those produced elsewhere, notably the UK.

I also think they'll look a bit daft if they carry in the direction they seem to be headed, and accuse a half-Swedish firm run by a Frenchman, with production problems in Belgium and the Netherlands of being in any way anti-EU.

I’m taking evasive action. Bought a six pack of bleach today. That with a good 20ml syringe from the animal medicine cabinet, paired with a needle off the floor of the pickup, should get me sorted if the worst comes to the worst.

This is far from amusing - delays in vaccination will cause more deaths, either here or in the EU.
It has the potential to get very nasty very quickly as countries get desperate for supplies

Not Britain's fault the EU isn't doing well though is it. From what I've seen on the news here the EU seems to have taken every opportunity to stick the boot into the UK recently. Perhaps they should get their own act together.
They need to fix the problem with their factories not demand more from the UK.

Have the EU authorised the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine yet? I don't think they had at the beginning of this week despite all the furore. And yet they have accused AZ of diverting 'their' vaccine to sell elsewhere, which is a bit odd when AZ is making and distributing the vaccine at cost for the duration of the pandemic.

The EU are trying to make AstraZeneca the scapegoat for their own inadequacy. I'd be willing to put money on the AZ contract with the EU being watertight, allowing for unforeseen hiccups in production and distribution during a pandemic. Maybe AZ should publish the contract and expose the EU's typical foot-stampy bullying for what it is?

If push comes to shove and courts become involved the secrecy surrounding the contract will be blown wide open.

The UK's initial doses of the AstraZenica vaccine came from EU plants. The contract with the EU states that the bulk of the EU supply will be processed by the UK plants with backup from plants in Holland and Belgium. Another thing to bare in mind is the manufacturing process of the AZ vaccines is a multi site process with some of the stages happening in EU countries before being shipped in bulk to Wrexham for example to be put into vials.

Could you imagine the uproar if say ,boris or trumpy made a statement like the eu and demand other peoples vaccine ,the word dictator would be out in force
That and saying we were still acting like the empire still ruled the world.
Perhaps someone should ask captain hindsight if we should give away our vaccines.
To be honest if we gave away all our vaccines it wouldnt cover that many in the EU

Concurr. There was outrage a few weeks ago when Mr Trump did indeed say America First for vaccines. I may look back to find a news article. Our friends across the water have cocked up. But it will sort itself out.

I thought the terms of the contract were a secret. What are the said supply issues and why are the Dutch and Belgian plants not operating? Would you ramp up production of your produce before approval for sale ? The EU have been dragging their heels, weighed down by bureaucracy and now they have been put under pressure they are trying to wield a big stick. Pathetic. I quite believe there are supply problems and once again it will be EU regulation and red tape that is the probable cause.
